Description

R. c. SCHUPPHAUS.
PLAYING BALL. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 3Q. 1915.
ROBERT C. SOHO'PPHAUS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
PLAYING-BALL.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Application filed June 30, 1915. Serial No. 37,240.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that 1, ROBERT C. Sent)??- HAUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain Y new and useful Improvements in Playing- Balls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to playin balls, and more particularly to balls used or the purpose of golf playing, and it has for its object the filling of such balls with a special substance being a liquid or a jelly.
Golf balls having a liquid or jelly-like core have proved to be of superior quality, and furthermore experience has shown that a high density of such a liquid or jelly-like core increases the desirable properties of such balls.
Heretofore, the balls have been filled with mixture of barytes, or white lead with glycerin, red lead and soap, or zinc chlorid all of which have their drawbacks either because of lack of homogeneity, inferior density, or-
lead salt of an alkyl-sulfuric acid, preferably using for this purpose the preparation made from ordinary rain alcohol, the basic lead salt of ethyl-sulfuric acid, a solution of which in water can easily be brought to a specific gravity of 3.00, or thereabout, or any suitable menstruum may be added to the basic lead salt of alkyl-sulfuric acid.
I claim:
1. In a playing ball a core composed of a basic lead salt of alkylsulfuric acid and water.
2. In a playing ball a core composed of a basic lead salt of alkylsulfurie acid and a menstruum.
3. In a playing ball a core composed of a basic lead salt of ethyl-sulfuric acid and water.
4. In a playing ball a core composed of a basic lead salt of ethyl-sulfuric acid and a menstruum.
5. In a playing ball a core composed of a basic lead salt and a menstruum, forming a stable homogeneous liquid of great density.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ROBERT C. scHUPPHAUs.
