4 TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pate ntediug, 19, 1919.
Application filed December 10, 1918. Serial No. 288,043.
To all whom it may concern: 4
Be it known that we, FRED PARKER and ARTHUR PARKER, both citizens of the United States, residing at Wilmerding, 1n the county of Alleghen and State of Pennsyl Vania, havednvente certain new and useful Improvements in- Toys, of which the followin is a specification.
s vention relates to toys, more particularlyto what may be termed an aeroplane top, and has for its object to provide, I in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a toy including a projection inthe form of an aeroplane wing adapted to be projectedthrough the air when the toy is operated.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a toy which is simple in its construction, convenient to operate, affording amusement when actuated, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically de-. scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood.
that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
'In the drawings wherein zhke reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a toy in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, broken away.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the plane or projectile.
Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a handle, having a socket 2 at. its upper end and in which is fixed the reduced lower end 3, of a shaft 4. The latter is provided with a head 5, at its upper end.
Rotatably mounted on the shaft 4, is a flanged spool or reel 6, formed with a bore 7, and said spool 6 is also countersunk as at 8, at, the outer end of the bore 7 l The head 5, ofthe shaft 4, is seated in the countersunk portion 8, and in connection with the upper or forward end 9', of the handle 1, couples the spool 6, to the handle 1,. whereby the spool can rotate or revolve around the shaft 4.
- Projecting from the upper or forward end of the spool 4, isa pair of spaced studs 9*.
The spool6 is employed for winding an actuating member, which is in the form of a cord or spring 10, having a disk 11', at its outer end.
When the actuating member is Wound on the spool and then withdrawn therefrom causing the rotating or revolving of the spool 6, the latter is adapted to project through the air a plane or projectile, referred to generally by the reference charac ter 12, and which is seated upon the forward or outer end of the spool 6, with the studs 9 extending through openings 13, in the plane, Wing or projectile 12.
The projectile 12, is formed of a length The outer portions 14:, 15, are inclined relatively to the intermediate portion 16, and further are inclined in opposite direc- I tion with respect to each other.
What we claim is:
1. A toy comprising a rotatable s 001, a support therefor, a pair of studs pro ecting from one end of the spool, a'plane adapted to beseated on the spool and including an intermediate portion having openings for the passage of said studs, and including a pair of inclined outer portions and means for actuating the spool to project the wing, said wing being oppositely slitted at the termini of the intermediate portion.
2. A toy comprising a rotatable spool, a support therefor, a pair of studs projecting from one end of the spool, a plane adapted to be seated on the spool and including an r 2 v l 1,3133% intermediate gortion', having openin for oppositely slitted at the termini of the inthe passage 0 said studs, and inclu ingra termediate portion. Emir of inclined outer portions and means In testimony whereof we afiix our signe- 10 or actuating the spool to project the wing, tures.
5 said outer Portions inclining in opposite dlv rections re etively to each other and to the FRED PARKER. intermediate portion,. and said wingbeing ARTHUR PARKER.
