Description
UNITED STATES PATENTA orrioe.
HARRIETT'E cALKINs AND ZELMA M. oanxms, or vanYsBURG, NEW YORK.A
TorV FIGURE.
To all whom t may concern.' Y
Be 1t known that we, HARRIETTE CALKINS and ZELMA M. CALKINs, citizens of the United States, residing at `Varysburg, in the county of Wyoming and State or New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Figures, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to an improved toy figure and the principal object of the invention is to provide a gure so constructed that it may be caused to move from an upright position to a Crouching position and at the same time move the arms vertically to wave flags carried in the hands of the toy ligure and to further cause the tongue to be protruded and retracted as the figure is caused to move.
Another object of' the invention'is to so construct the frame of this ligure that the actuating handles may extended through the sides of the figure where they may be grasped and moved inwardly and outwardly thus imparting movement to the lazy-tong spring construction.
Another object of the inventionis to so construct this toy that the operation will be very simple and to further so construct the toy that the Jframe works will be strong and durable and not liable to get out of order or easily broken.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a view showing the trame work of the toy in front elevation, and the body portion positioned about the frame indicated in dotted lines,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through the upper portion of the toy, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the tongue and actuating rod.
This toy is provided with a frame having a lazy-tong construction and provided with cross bars 10 and 11 which are pivotally mounted as shown at 12, 13 and 14, the fasteners 14 also serving to loosely connect the actuating handles 15 with the lazy-tong structure. The cross bars 11 have extensions 11 which constitutes a. portion of the leg structure of this toy and are pivotally connected with the depending bars 16 which constitute the remainder of the leg structure and are provided at their lower free ends with feet 17. The cross bars 10 are extended to provide arm extensions 10 which termi- Specication of Letters Patent.

nate in the hands -17 carrying flags 1S shown in section of Fig. l. It will be readily seen that when the handles 15 are grasped and movedL inwardly and outwardly the lazytong structure will be actuated to extend and contract the same thus causing the figure to move Vfrom a standing orrerect position toa Crouching position and to 'swing the arms vertically.
FAS this gure is moved it is desired to have the tongue 19 extended through the mouth opening of the head2() and withdrawn back into the head and therefore this tongue 19 has been provided with a reduced inner end portion forming a stem 21 which is loosely connected with the upper end of a rod 22. This'rod extends through a coiled spring 23 positioned in the neck portion of the figure or body and anchored to the bars 24 as clearly Vshown in Fig. 2. These bars 24 are pivotally connected with the extensions 10 of the cross bars 10 and carry links 25 which are pivotally connected through the medium of a pin 26 which pin serves to carry the rod 22. As the lazy-tong frame structure is lmoved to raise and lower the figure the bars 24 and links 25 will be swung upon their pivot pins thus moving the rod 22 vertically and causing the tongue 19 to be extended and retracted. lIt will of course be understood that the body portion of this toy will be Jformed of some suitable material such as paper or other material which will permit the necessary movement without binding or tearing.
What is claimed is:
l. A toy figure having a frame comprising cross bars pivotally connected in a lazytong structure and extending to provide arm and leg extensions, depending bars pivotallyV connected with the leg extensions to provide continuations of the leg structure for the with the inner end portions of the links andl loosely connected with the inner end portion of the tongue element whereby the tongue CJI connected with the arm extensions and having their inner end portions pivotally connected, links pivotally connected and positioned between the bars and having their outer end portions pivotally connected with the bars, a tongue element, an actua-ting rod for the tongue element loosely connected with the inner end portions thereof and loosely connected with the links, an actuating handle connected with the lazy-tong structure intermediate its length for imparting movement to the same.
3. A toy ligure having a frame comprising a lazy-tong structure including upper and lower leg and arm extensions, bars pivotally connected with the arm extensions and having their upper ends pivotally connected and constituting a neck extension, links pivotally connected with the upper bars, a tongue element, means connecting the tongue element with the links for extending and retracting the tongue when the lazy-tong structure is moved, and actuating means loosely connected with thelazy-tong structure intermediate the arm and leg eXtensions.
ing a lazy-tong structure having arm and leg extensions, actuating means connected with the lazy-tong structure intermediate the arm and leg extensions, a tongue element, and means operatively connecting the tongue with the arm extensions whereby the tongue will be extended and retracted as the lazy-tong structure is actuated.
A toy figure having a body structure, a frame structure hinged in the body structure, the frame structure having a lazy-tong construction including arm and leg extensions and links pivotally connected with the arm extensions to constitute a neck extension, a tongue element, actuating means for the tongue element connected with the links for imparting movement to the tongue as theJ lazy-tong structure is moved, means connected with the lazy-tong st ructure for imparting movement to the same.
In testimony whereof, we aix our signatures hereto. Y
Miss HABRIETTE GALKINS. ZELMA M. CALKINS.
