Description

S. C. RADFORD.
EXCELSIOR.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 28, I919.
Patented Dec. 9, 1919.
Jig Z STEPHEN C. RADFORD, OF OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN.
nxcELsIon.
To all whom it may concern: 1 i h Be itknown that I, STEPHEN 0. Rumors), a citizen of the United States, and resident of Oshkosh, in the countyof Winnebago .and State of Wisconsin, have invented new' i and useful Improvements in Excelsior, of
which the following isa description, refer-' ence being had to the accompanying drawings, which area part of this specification. The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wood shavings, more commonly termed excelsior.
One object of the invention is to provide space with less material than is necessary with the excelsior now in general use, and to provide an excelsior'shaving which will have added strength and increased resiliency.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'an excelsior shaving so'shaped as tot ill more ,Another object of the invention is to provide an excelsior shaving which wil'l be curved or angular in cross sectlon and which will'be coiled in a spiral with the longitudinal extending channel ,formed by the curvature the shaving on the inside of the 1ral. v I With the above and other objects in view I which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides the novel con structlon, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood'that such changes in the precise embodiment of the hereindisclos'ed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, I have ..il1ustrated one complete example of the. physical: embodiment of'my invention, con- ,10 structed according to the best mode I have 'tion of a shaving embodying one form of so far devised for the practical application of'the principles thereof,-and in which: Figure 1 is a perspectiveviewof a pormyinvention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken;
of my invention depicted through the form in Fig. 1.
-' Fig. 3 1s a perspective view. of a portion of an excelsior shavin embodying aslightly modified form ther i, and
Patented Dec. 9, 1M9.
, Application filed Jul as, 1919. Serial No. 313,874.
-- Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view through in Fig. 3.
Referring now moreparticularly to Figs. 1- and 2 of the drawing, 5 designates a Wood or excelsior shaving which is coiled in a spiral or curled, and has its longitudinally extending side edges 6 on adifl'erent plane from its medial longitudinally extending portion 7 to present a curved surface in cross section.
Inthat form of my invention depleted in Figs. 3 and 4, ,the shaving 5 has its longitudinally extending side edges 8 also on a different plane from its medial longitudinally extending portion 9. As best shown in Fig. 4:, this form of my invention is angular in cross section, whereas that form of my invention depicted in Fig. 2 iscurved in cross section.
From the for oing description taken in connection with t e accompanying drawing, it will be readily apparent that I provide a longitudinally channeled excelsior shav- "ing by arranging its side longitudinal edges the form of my invention depicted;
on a different plane from its medial longitudinally extending portion, which is curved or coiled in a spiral with the channel prefer'ably on the inside of the spiral. .What I claim as my invention is: 1. An article of manufacture consisting of a longitudinally channeled excelsior shav- 2: An article of manufacture consisting of a longitudinally channeled excelsior shaving coiled in a spiral. R
'3; An article of manufacture consisting of an excelsior shaving having its side edges on a different plane from its medial longitudinally extending portion in transverse cross section.
article of manufacture consisting of an excelsior shaving having its side longi-- tudinal edges on a different plane from its inediallongitudinally extending portion in transverse cross sect1on, said shaving being in the condition of having been coiled .in a spiral. .7
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
