The present invention has reference generally to improvements in that class of inventions known as games and toys and more particularly relates to an improved toy.

llelcrring now, more particularly, to the ttCCOllll)ttllli llilg drawings there is provided a supporting sleeve 1 which may be and preterably formed of suitable metal while formed adjacent the upper end of the sleeve is a longitudinal slot 2 for a purpose that will presently appear. At opposite points substantially intermediate the end oil the slot the sides thereof: are provided with opposed finger receiving recesses 3 the particular purpose oi which will presently appear.

Arranged throughout the sleeve is a supporting rod .5: which is provided adjacent is upper end with. spaced annular grooves a the grooves being arranged preferably adjacent the respective ends of the slots 2 while connected in the grooves are the innor ends ot a dag 6, the flag being preternbly secured by means oil pieces of cord 7 which are wrapped in the grooves about the ends oi? the flag as indicated in Fig. 5 of the drawings. As will be appreciated by the arrangement described the flag is designed to be extended through the slot and when the rod is rotated will be rolled about the rod so as to be consequently arranged within the sleeve. A. head 8 is now provided and is desirably indicative of the head 0t Uncle Sam. A neck 9 issues from the head and has the inner end reduced while the outer edge of the reduced end is provided with an interiorly threaded socket 11 in which is removably engaged the upper threaded end 12 oi the rod 41:. When the head is in engagement with the rod it is designed that the shoulder formed when the end 10 is reduced be arranged in close relation-with the upper edge of the sleeve while the reduced end itself is arranged in close relation with the inner Wall of the sleeve 1 adjacent the upper end thereof. This reduced neck in effect provides a bearing which cooperates with a collar 13 carried adjacent the opposite end of the rod l. The

' 1 collar has one portion reduced as at 14 providing the shoulder 15 which shoulder is arranged 1n close relation wlth the lower edge of the sleeve 1 while the reduced end 14 is arranged within the lower edge of the sleeve. Of course the neck and collar cooperate with each other in preventing undue longitudinal movement, at the same time being-arranged in close relation with theinner walls of the sleeve forming bearings so 'as to facilitate an effective rotation of the rod. 'An eye 16 is formed on the outer end of the rod and enables the user to rotate the rod so as to roll the flag 6 thereupon and draw it through the slot.

During the rotation of the rod whether theflag is being wound or unwound owing to the substantially rigid relation between the rod and the head the head will be rotated so as to afford amusement As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, and it is intendedthat all'inatter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limited sense. It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover all the generic and specific features of the invention herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a matter of language might be said to fall therebetween.

Having thus fully described this invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters-Patent, is:

1. A device of the character described including a supporting sleeve having a longitudinal slot therein adjacent one end, a supporting rod arranged in the sleeve, a flag arranged through the slot and connected to the rod, a head having a neck issuing therefroin'for engagement with the rod, the neck of the head being reduced and arranged in close relation vith the upper edge of the sleeve and constituting a bearing, a reduced bearing collar carried by the opposite end of the rod and arranged in close relation with the lower edge of the sleeve and cooperating with the reduced neck of the head for preventing longitudinal movement of the rod, and a finger loop formed on the outer end of the rod for facilitating the rotation of the rod and the head for winding the flag upon the rod.

2. A device of the character described including a sleeve having a longitudinal slot adjacent the upper edge thereof, the sides of the slot being provided with opposed finger receiving recesses, a rod arranged within the sleeve, bearings carried by the respective ends of the rod for facilitating the rotation of the rod and for preventing longitudinal. movement of the rod, a flag arranged through the slot, means for connecting the inner end of the flag to the rod, and means formed on the outer end of the rod to facilitate the rotation thereof to consequently roll the flag upon the rod and draw it within the sleeve.
