Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed March 27, 1919. Serial No. 285,698.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F REDERIC BERGMANN, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Lyon, France, have invented a new and Improved Eye-Shield, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
rl.`his invention relates to eye shields and has for an object the provision of an improved construction which may be quickly and easily applied and removed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shield formed of transparent material which is at the same time flexible.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of an embodiment of the invention, same being illustrated in use.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front view of the shield shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional View through Fig. 2 on line 3 3.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the body or transparent part of a shield which is provided with reinforcing strips 2 and 3 along the upper edge, said strips being secured to the body 1 by lines of stitching 4 and 5. Cords or elastic members 6 and 7 are secured by lines of stitching 9 and 10 to the reinforcing strips which are adapted to be brought .whereby an ample and proper shaped body will be presented for covering the eyes and part of the nose. This will protect the eyes against dust and the like when used by persons driving automobiles or other vehicles, and at the same time allows him to see Without danger of injuring the eyes.
What I claim is:
An eye shield comprising a flexible transparent substantially rectangular body, a pair of reinforcing strips of fabric arranged along one edge, a plurality of lines of stitching extending through said strips of fabric and said body for holding said strips in place, a tying strip extending from each end of said strips, and lines of stitching extending through said reinforcing strips and tying strips for holding the tying strips in place.
