Description

S. B. BEDINGER.
PRICE TAG.
APPLucATmN FILED SEPT. 13, 1919.
NOILdIiOSBG UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
SINGLETON B. BEDINGER, OF TERRELL, TEXAS.
PRICE-TAG.
Application filed September 13, 1919.
T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, SINeLn'roN B. BED- INGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terrell, in the county of Kaufman and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Price- Tags, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in price tags.
The object of the invention is to provide a price tag which not only displays the selling price but which makes available at a glance a stock record and a cost record and provides space for making notations and writing other information. The purpose is to make the information on the tag so complete that a clerk unacquainted with the stock may ascertain the selling price singly, in lots or by the gross, the cost price and the stock on hand.
In carrying out the invention I provide a tag having front and back sides, each having a printed panel containing price and stock data, and each side also has a writing panel capable of enduringunlimited erasures. A tab is attached to the top of the tag for attaching it to the goods or shelving and forming a hinge so that the tag may be swung upward to observe the data on the back side thereof, the printed matter on the back side being inverted so as to revert when the tag is swung upward.
One ofthe features is forming the tag with two leaves between which the tab may be placed and replaced when torn o.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:
Figure l is a. front elevation of a tag embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4: is a detail of the cover piece,
Fig. 5 is an isometrical view of a modified form of tag,
Fig. 6 is a view of the modified tag before it is folded,
Fig. 7 is a view showing the tag as it is normally displayed on the goods, and
Fig. 8 shows the tag swung up to observe the back side of the same.
In the drawings the numeral l0 desig- Specication of Letters Patent.

nates a sheet of cardboard or the like folded equally into two leaves ll and l2 respectively, the outer side of one constituting the front side of the tag and the outer side of the other constituting the back side of the same. I prefer to form the sheet of cardboard having one side provided with a slate or black board coating, this side being outward when the sheet is folded. I insert a strip of glue 13 between the lower edges of the leaves leaving the top and one side open.
A cover member le is folded and glued around the lower portion of the tag. This member has a front panel l5 on the front side of the tag and a rear panel i6 on the back side of the tag. A selling price is printed in the panel l5 in type large enough to be easily discerned; -while in inverse relation thereto, description and selling data are printed on the panel 16, space being left for writing figures uncer each item.
A tab 1T having an adhesive face is secured to one of the leaves between the same so as to project thereabove. This tab may have a hole 18 in its upper end for hanging the tag on a nail. The tab is made of fabric or material stronger than paper or cardboard so that when fastened on the same, may be torn off, the paper leaving or peeling off with the tab. The tab is fastened on the goods as shown in Fig. 7 so that the tag depends. The upper writing panel or portion of the front side provides a space on which crayon or chalk may be used for writing a suitable designation such as per can or 3 for. To ascertain the cost and stock data the salesman merely has to raise the tag as shown in Fig. 8 and he has a description of the goods, the cost, the selling price, and under the word Stock, the quantity on hand has already been written with crayon or chalk on the slate surface. The clerk does not need to refer to the stock or call a superior to obtain selling information.
I prefer to make the tag from a single sheet l0 as is shown in Figs. 5 and 6, but this requires facilities not always obtainable and for this reason the cover 14C may be used. In the modified form the upper half only of each leaf is coated with the slate surfacing. The panel l5 is printed directly on the lower portion of the front side, while the panel 16 is printed on the back side,
in inverse relation. The reason for leaving the upper portion of the tag open is to make it easy to replace the tab 17. It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the data or exact arrangement shown.
What I claim, is:
A tag of the character described embodying a sheet folded upon itself for forming two leaves adapted to be arranged in close relation, said leaves having corresponding ends secured together and their opposite ends separate, said leaves having their surfaces near said opposite ends coated with a blackboard material, a second sheet folded upon itself for providing panels which are arranged upon the outer surfaces of said leaves near the ends thereof which are secured together, and secured to said leaves, one panel having printed thereon the price of the article and the other panel having printed thereon in inverse relation the stock data, and a tab arranged between the separate ends of the first named leaves and secured thereto andA adapted to support the tag in a manner ywhereby it may be readily inverted. Y
.ln testimon whereof I ahiX my signature.
