To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP S. MEDAnT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swings, of which the following is a specification.
rIhis invention relates to that class of play ground or pleasure swings in which the seat member is held in a suspended condition by a pair of pliable side connections, and has for its objects To provide a simple and durable struc tional formation and association of parts whereby an effective and substantial hand hold or grip member is 'provided on the pliable side members of the swing, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1, is a front elevation of a swing embodying the present improvements.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3, is a detail longitudinal section of one hand hold portion.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the seat member of the usual flat board form, to the respective ends of which are attached angle bracket members, veach of which is formed with a horizontal flange or web 2 for attachment to the underside of the member 1, and with a vertical flange or web 3 of a triangular shape and having at its upper end out-turned flanges or ears i having alined orifices for the reception of an attaching pin or rivet hereinafter described.
5 designate the pair of flexible suspension members or chains of the swing, provided at their upper ends with attaching hooks 6,

and connected at their lower ends to the aforesaid bracket members by means as follows 7 designates a hub or sleeve fitting between a pair of out-turned flanges 4 above described, and secured in place by an attaching pin or rivet 8 passing through the respective, parts as shown.
9 designates a centrally disposed oriliced lug on a hub or sleeve 'T for engagement with the lower end of a suspension cable or chain 5, as shown. ri'he above described construction is adapted to afford an eco! nomical, safe and durable swing structure for playgrounds and like uses.
10 designate hand holds or grips attached to the suspension members or chains 5 at the required distance above the seat member 1. In the present improvement the holds or grips 10 consists of sections of rubber or like hose slipped over the chains 5 and secured in place by molded end binders or collars 11, of lead, or like low fusion metal, cast in place.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a playground or like swing, a suspension member, a hand hold formed of a section of hose slipped upon said member, and end binders or collars securing said section of hose in place.
2. In a playground or like swing, a suspension chain, a hand hold` formed of a section of hose slipped upon said chain and end binders or collars of fusible metal cast in place.
Signed at St. Louis, Missouri, this 16th day of November 1919.
