Lafraise;
To all fw 710m t may concern Be it known that, VViLLiAu a citizen of the United States, and resident of the cityoi Seattle, county of King, andA State oi" Ti/Vashington, have inven-ted certain` new and useful improvements in Butter- Gutteis, of which `the following is a specifi# cation.l U Y This invention relates to improvements in butter cutters, and more particularly to devices othat character whereby cales'of butter may be cut into small chips :tor individual table use. Y I y It is the principal object of the invention to provide a butter cutter of the character` above stated, wherein means is provided for cutting chipsv ot diiierent thicknesses, andy provision is made or main-taining the cutters taut and Asecurely mounted so as to avoid any unevennessin cutting. V i
it is also an objecto" the invention to provide cutters of a novel character which are practically indestructible, together withy mounting Abars whereby i the cutters are spaced to cut thin or relatively thick chips.
in accomplishing these and other objects of the. invention, 'have provided Ithe improved details-'oi' structure, the preferred terms loi whichare illustrated in the accompa-nying drawings, whereini* igui'e 1 isa plan view of a butter out ting Vdevice embodying the present invention, wherein, for betterillustration, vone of the pressure levers is shown in lowered positioii while vthe other is shown'in raised position;
Fig. 2 is .a side view of Lthe device, partly in section. showing the parts in the positions as they are illustrated in'Fig. Fig. 3 .is an inside face view oi a portion ci one oi? the cutter-supporting frame" side rails, with the cutter mounting and spacing bar attached thereto.
Fig. 4 isa transverse section taken on the Y neled portions of the rails 2 and the bars `Eig. 5 is aperspectiveview ovon'e of the i'erred form of construction, comprises two inwardly facing, channeled side rails V2, which are joinedby twogopposite end rails 3 toforina substantially rigid frame having a rectangular central opening 4 of such size H. that it will receive the ordinary square cake of butter as sold commercially.
rPhe two end rails 3 of the frame are provided with laterally extending wings, each' ot' which has a [slot 6 therein extending in the central, longitudinal line of the frame and thesewings have parallel, vertical' flanges 71 formed atopposite sides of the slots between which pressure levers 8 are mounted to turn pivotally in avertical vplane upon pivot pins `9, extending between the paired flanges. v f y Formed integral with the levers 8 at their innerlendsare geared, segmental heads 10, which-are-adapted to be rotated in mesh with the raclrsurfaces'll of standards 12 that are mounted on the opp'osite'ends of a base plate 13 whereon a cake ofbutter,
fis-indicated at y1% in Fig. 2, may be placed mounted on the baseV and extending Iverticallyv and rslidablythrough the slots 6 close to the end rails 3 of the frame, andV are of such length that cakes of ybutter of the usual size may be accommodated. i
in' this construction tangulai, and 'has a length and'width that is slightly less than the length and width of the opening 4, so thatthe frame-may move downwardly laboutfthe'base.v n o Extending transversely across the opening i, at regularly spaced intervals, throughout itsy length, are the cutters 15, which` in their preferred form-'of yconstruction comprise thin strips'of metal'having loops 16 formed attheir oppositerends which are adapted to receivel pins or projections, as sho-wn at 17,*eXten-ding from bars 18 that are removably attached longitudinally along the inner acesfand within the channels of the frame rails 2. f
The strips 15 are of such length that they-l will extendl across the opening 4 and the loops 16 will be contained within-the chanthrough, may be'drawn outwardly by the l Y Vi105 said screws `to tension the cutting strips.
vthe base 13 is rec-fy The bars 18 are' eachequipped with pinsf 17 along both lthe `upper and "lower Yedges, withv those on one vedgespa'ce'at closer inso that, according to the side of the barson which lthe cutters Iare mounted, either thin or relatively thick chips may be cut.
tervals than those along the4 opposite edge, p
Vll() f When the device is in use, it is preferred to mount the cutters adjacent the lower edge of the side rails 2,. and iic it is desired to change the thickness of ythe chips, the bars are removed and inverted, so that the different thickness may be accomplished but the cutters will still be maintained` -adjacentthe lower edge of the frame.. lHowever, if it is desired, the cutters may be mounted to ex tend across the opening adjacent the top of the frame.
In the present device a wire 2,0 is attached to the opposite ends oi the frame to extend centrally across the frame opening trans# pins extending therefrom `vals and cutter strips extending across said permit an easy .site edges of the bars being versely beneath the cutter strips l5 to divide the vcakes of Vbutter longitudinally.
Assuming' that the device is so oonstructed, in using the same, a cake of butter to be cut intochips-is placed upon the base 13 while the frame l is in elevated position; or is entirely removed from the base. The frame is then placed in position, in case it had been removed, and the levers 8 swung, from inwardly extending position outwardly, so that the geared heads l0 engaging with the raclr surfaces of the standards Y12 will Vmove theV raine downwardly to press the cutters edgewise through the cake oi" butter to cut the saine in small cakes. The levers are then swung inwardly to raise and release Athe Vframe and it can be `removed to removal of the butter chips from the base. `It itis desiredto cut chips or' different thickness, the barsilS are released by loosen- Ving the screws 19 and the cutters placed on the oppositesets of pins 17; the bars being inverted iffit is desired to maintain the cutters at the lower edge or" the frame, and are then attached as betere to the rails 2.
`What I' claimas new, is: 'Y
