WILLIAM HENRY WILLIAMS, 0! ERDINGTON, BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
BOX OR CONTAINER FOR RAZOR-BLADES AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 10, 1921.
Application filed June 3, 1919. Serial No. 301,416.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM HENRY VIL- LiAMs, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Bromford Lane, Erdington, Birmingham. England, have invented a new and useful Box or Container for Razor- Blades and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises an improved box or container for razor blades and the like, and has for its object to provide a handy container permitting the blades to be readily removed singly from it and lending itself to easy and rapid production.
As is well known blades for safety razors are put up for the market in separate paper or like Wrappers or envelops for each blade. For the purpose of my invention any similarpacking may be followed.
The improved box or container has its sides or ends inclined so that the packets slightly overhang each other at one end or side, preferably the end, and the corresponding wall of the box or container is cut away or so formed as to permit access to the packet so that, due to the overhang, they may be instantly removed oneby one as required.
The box is thus rhomboidal in form and is readily made from a flat cut out blank of suitable metal by bending or pressing up the sides and bending. or pressin up the end portion within and flush wit the edges of the sides. One end piece is provided with integral extensions which are curved over to form spring hinge fingers to" pass through holes near the end of a lid or retainer to keep the pile of blades in place. The lid or retainer. may be provided with slight lateral projections or trunnions which take in notches in the edges of the sides to form the hinge. In this form the boxis a two piece construction, free from pins, rivets, or the like.
The drawing shows the preferred embodiment with the incline or rake at the ends so that the handled parts of the packet when removing them from the box are not those covering the sharpened edges of the blade.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the container.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the lid or retainer raised.
Fig. 3 is a plan.
Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal section open.
Fig. 5 is a similar section closed.
Fig. 6 is an end view.
Fig. 7 is the opposite end view.
The box a. with inclined ends 12, c, has one end I) cutaway to expose the ends of the blade packets (I. The end 0 has the extended fingers e curved over to form s ring fingers for engaging holes f in the lid or retainer g. The lid 9 has slight lateral pro-' ject-ions or trunnions resting in recesses IL in the edges of the sides of the box, and by reason of the spring fingers e engaging the lid to one side of the axis of the hin e formed by the trunnions and recesses, the lid is held in the open position, and due to the forward'and downward curve of the fi'nlike, comprising in combination a box portion with inclined ends, the bottom, side and ends of said box being pressed from a metal blank, a lid to said box, and means on one end piece of said box for hingin said lid, said means comprising extended finger portions engaging holes in said lid and exerting spring pressure on said lid.
2. container for razor blades and the like, comprising in combination, a rhomboid box portion with parallel ends inclined to the bottom of the box; the bottom, sides and two ends of said box being pressed from a metal blank, the inclined end which makes an obtuse angle to the bottom being cut away from the top toward the bottom; a lid to said box, and means on the other end piece of said box for hinging the lid, said means comprising trunnion portions on said lid rolling in recesses in said box sides and extended fingers on the box engagin holes in said lid, said fingers being upwardly and forwardly curved about said hinge and eccentric to same to exert s ring pressure on the lid to retain it in hot closed and open positions.
In testimony whereof I aflix m signature.
WILLIAM HEN RY WI ILIAMS.
