/n Men/or F Payeau Alia/way FRANGOES PAGEAU, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
3001 AND SHOE.
Application filed April 24, 1 920.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCOIS PAGEAU, a British subject, grocer, residing at No. 1904: Eoyer street, in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in boots and shoes, and its main object is to provide a onepiece boot. A further object is to provide a boot in which a great number of seams and workmanship will be eliminated, thus reducing considerably the manufacturing cost of the boot.
The invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a side elevation of a boot built according to the invention.
Fig. 2, is a top view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is a reduced plan view of a portion of the boot, disclosing the shape or method of cutting the boot before being set up on the form.
Fig. i, is a view of the heel portion of the boot.
Lilre numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a sheet or blank of leather or of any suitable material cut to form a semi-circular central rear flap 2. From opposite sides of said flap 2 extend laterally the straight out portions 3, and e is a curved portion extending from each of said straight out portions 3, said "curved portion & terminating in a diagonal portion 5 which has a sharp edge 6. From said sharp edge 6 extends a curved portion 7 which converges toward the center of the blank, and 8 is a wedge shape tongue extending outwardly and centrally therefrom.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
Serial No. 376,331.
The blank when thus out is placed on a convenient form, the curved portions 7 and the diagonally out portions 5 being made to overlap said form. The tongue 8 is folded over the toe end of said form, and the edges of the curved portions 7 are stitched to the edges of said tongue as disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2. The straight out portions 3 are folded over the heel portion of the form and stitched together, and the flap 2 is made to overlap said folded straight out portions 3 and is also stitched over said straight out portions.
It will thus be readily seen, that a boot or shoe, built according to this method, will be durable and particularly water-tight, due to the very limited number of seams. A more or less heavy sole and heel can be provided by simply sewing or otherwise securing the sole to the sole proper of the boot. it is evident that any shape of boot can easily be made according to this method.
What I claim as my invention is A one-piece boot or shoe, comprising a sole provided at its forward end with a wedge-shaped tongue, the narrow end of which is integrally connected to the sole; and an upper, also integral with the sole, extending at each side of the sole uninterrupted by transverse seams from toe to heel, the forward portionsat opposite sides of the upper having outwardly curved edges between which said tongue is bent backward so as to unite therewith in forming the toe of the shoe; the said curved edges and the adjacent edges of the tongue being stitched directly together and terminating short of the tip of the toe at their forward ends.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 30th day of March, 1920.
FRANCOIS PAGEAU.
