ATTORNEY WITNESSES 1 UNITED STATES DAVID W. YORK, OF NORTH ABINGTON', MASSACHUSETTS.
GARMENT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Nov. 22,1921.
Application filed August 23, 1920. Serial No. 405,503.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID W. YORK, a citlzen of the United States, residing at North Abington in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and aims to provide a hanger upon which a hat, coat or other gar ment may be locked to prevent its unauthorized removal.
Another object is the provision of a garment hanger of the above character, which is simple in construction and operation and attractive in appearance and which will contain a number ofindividual garment supporting elements so as to adapt it for use 1n dining rooms, barber shops and other public places.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim. 1
In the drawings Fi re 1 is a view in elevation showing certain of the hat and coat retainers in use and others open.
Fig. 2 is an edgeview.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a similar View on the line 4-4 of Fig.1. 4
Fig. 5 is a detailed section at right angles to Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a detailed view of the coat engaging spring which is carried by the garment supporting element.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the hanger is made up of a base which includes horizontal members 10 and end members 11, the latter connecting the horizontal members. Located along the top of the base is a mirror 12 which adds to the appearance and usefulness of the hanger.
The hanger is provided with hat retaining elements 13 and garment retaining elements 14, the former comprising substantially U shaped frames 15, the legs of which are coiled to provide springs 16. The extremities of these legs pass through, or are otherwise secured to the members 10 of the base as indicated at 17 so that the frame 15 is hingedly secured in position and normally contacts with the base. 15 is covered by a concavo-convex or dished covering 18, which may be formed of woven The frame wire or other foraminous material, the purpose being to provide a receptacle for a hat or like article, through the walls of which the article may be seen.
The garment receptacle 14 is also formed of a substantially U shaped frame 19 constructed so as to provide spring hinges 20,
position this covering incloses an inverted substantially U shaped frame 22 which has its ends secured to the base. The frame 19 carries a spring member 23 and when a coat or other garment is placed in position, this spring member .will engage the garment which has been previously hung upon the frame 22.
Both the hat retaining elements and garment retaining elements are adapted to be locked in closed position and for the purpose the frames 15 and 19 carry lugs or tongues 23' which enter openings 24 provided in the base and engage key operated locks 25, a difl'erent key being provided for each of the locks.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a base having a plurality of openings formed therein, a plurality of inverted substantially U-shaped wire frames secured to the lower end of said base. a plurality of substantially U-shaped wire frames having the ends thereof terminating in coil springs secured to the upper ends ofsaid base. spring means carried by said frame and engaging said 111- verted U-shaped frame, dished covers carried by said frames, locks secured to said base adjacent to said openings and a plurality of notched tongues carried by said frames extenlciling into said openings and engaging said 100 s.
