- msPENsING DEVICE ERSHEET MATERIAL.
Speccatioii of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 20, 1921.
Application led March 23, 1920. Serial No. 368,161;
Zio-all whom it may concern y Be it known that I, Mosiis MITTELDORFER MARGUSE, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices for Sheet Material,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for dispensing sheet material, such as paper, and particularly paper' toweling, toilet paper, wrapping paper and the like, the apparatus being material from avweb. An object of the invention is to provide a dispenser in which the mechanism is exceedingly simple, so as to reduce the cost of manufacture, and a further object is to provide a dispenser in which the desired length of material may always be Withdrawn from the dispenser, without the possibility of the material occupying an inaccessible position.
Further objectsand advantages of the invention will appear from the apparatus, and in order that the invention may be more fully understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawings illustrating several preferred embodiments thereof, and in which:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of the dispenser;
Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line 2-2 Fig. 3 is a4 perspective view of another einbodiment of the 'nventioii, particularlyv adapted for large containers adapted to hold a very long web to avoid frequent refilling.
Fig. 4 is a detaillview of the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 5 is a central view of another embodiment tion.
Referring particularly to the dispenser comprises a rear wall 1, -tOp and bottom walls 2 and 3 respectively-and side walls 4: and 5. A cover 6 is hinged at 7 to the sidewall 4, and this cover is formed longitudinal sectional of the inven- With a slot 8. rlhe cover is held in the p lock 9 or other A table 10 is hinged to the bottom wall 3 at 11, and -this table is preferably (though not necessarily) urged inwardly, by means of a spring 12.
closed position by means of a The table rests against stops 13 provided on articularly designed for dispensing the description of Figs. 1 and 2,-
the side walls 4 and 5. As shown'in Fig. 2, the spring 12 may be dispensed with and instead, spring catches 14; may housed. Obviously when the cover 6 is opened, the table 10. may,be swung outwardly and downwardly against the action.- of the spring 12. The
tongue 15 is pivoted at 16 to the end of table 10, and this tongue carries-on its free end a roller 17. A Weight 18 is preferably provided on the tongueor a spring similar to.
the spring 12 maybe provided at the hinge 16. If desired, Vboth the Weight and spring Vmay be dispensed with.
Secured to the bottom wall 3 is a number of U-shaped retaining bars 19.
It will be noted that there is a space between the cover .6 and table 10, and this space forms a chute 20. The lower end of the cover is provided with cuttingA means, such as a seriesof teeth, or a knife 21.
A web or package of paper 22 is'contained within the housing, and this web is prevented from falling forward by means of the retaining bars 19 and the tongue 15. rFhe paper is led out over the roller 17, in front of the tongue 15 and into the chute 20. In case the paper does not project out of the chute, it may be forced outwardly by inserting the thumb or finger in the opening 8 and vpressing upon the paper inwardly and downwardly against the table 10.
Although I do not limit myselfy to -the particular position in which this dispenser I is used, yet I' would point out that it is particularly adapted to be used in the vertical position as shown, being preferably hung on the wall by means of the member 23.
Referring particularly to Figs. 3 and 4c', it will be noted that the construction of the dispensing mechanism is` slightly different from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2. instead of the table 24 being pivoted or hinged to the casing, this table is secured to the cover 6, by means of flanges or the like 25 depending from the cover. The roller 26 is secured to the cover, to the rear of the chute 20, by means of brackets 27. .A tongue 28 is pivoted at 29 to the cover 6, and is preferably rovided with a spring 30 to force it against the roller 26, although it is obvious thatthe spring might be dispensed with and a weight (such as 18 in Fignvl) used instead.
This construction is particularly adapted for large containers, containing a comparatively long web or strip ofmaterial, and in which, as the box is emptied the upper end of the material (see line 31 in Fig. d) has a tendency to drop back. The spring-forced or weighted tongue 28 rests upon the roller 26 and prevents falling back of the paper,
A modified construction is shown in F ig. 5, in which the portion 01E the cover 6 formed with the opening 8 is bent downwardly at 32. This portion 32 of the cover has secured to it the plate or table 24C, by means of flanges or the like 2Q. The front wall 3 of the casing is bent inwardly as at 83 to abut against the vtable 2d, and thereby form a curved extension of the chute 20.' This construction could obviously be modified, by having, table 2d free from the cover extension 32, and integral with the portion 33 of the wall 3.
Une of the advantageso the invention herein shown resides in the fact that when the cover 6 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is opened,
and the table and tongue 10, 15, pulled out-y wardly, the whole side of the box is opened, and it is easy to insert the package or web of material. Then when the package 222 isl placed in position, and the dispenserclosed, the retaining bars 19 and the tongue serve to keep the package 22 in place.
Tn the embodiments shown in Figs?) to 5, opening the cover 6 completely opens the container inasmuch as the table 24 is secured to the cover, or is integral with the front wall of the container. f
Obviously, changes and alterations might be made in the construction herein shown and described, and the invention is not to be considered as limited to the exact construction shown, inasmuch as this invention contemplates any and all vconstructions comingvwithin the scope of the appended claims. hat I claim is l. A dispenser for a folded web oi sheet material comprising a material supporting casing, a cover movable relatively thereto, and a table mounted independently of the cover and so coperating with the wall of said cover to form a delivery chute between the cover and the table.
Leaders casing, and acover plate hinged to the oasing, said plate being formed with an opening thereln,y opposite said table and with 'cutting means.
4f. A dispenser for sheet material oomprisingv a material supporting casing, a table hinged thereto, altongue hinged to said table, said table being urged inwardly of the casing, and a cover plate hinged to the casing, said plate formed with an opening' therein, opposite said table.
5. ,A dispenser as vclaimed in claim 3, provided with retaining members on the casing.
6. A dispenser as claimed in claim 4i, provided with spaced retaining members on the casmg.
7. A dispenser for a folded web oi' sheet material comprisingA a material supporting casing, a cover movable relatively thereto, and having a window formed therein, and a table supported by the casing independently of the cover and coperating with the wall of said cover to form a delivery chute rbetween the cover and the table, the web being exposed by the window whereby it may be manually advanced through the chute. Y
8. Tn a dispensing apparatus, the combination with a casing and a cover hinged to one of the side walls thereof, of a table hinged to an end wall of the casing, so that when the cover is swung outwardly to the side,`the table may be swung outwardly and downwardly.
9. Tn a dispensing apparatus, the combination with a casing and a cover hinged to one of the side walls thereof, of a table w hinged to an end wall of the casing, and a tongue pivoted to said casing, so that when the cover is swung outwardly to the side, the table may be swung outwardly and downwardly together with the tongue.
10. In a dispenser for sheet material, the combination with acasing and a cover hinged thereto, and formed with an open ing therein,of a table coperating with said cover, and a tongue pivoted to 'said table, said table being adapted, when the cover is opened, to assume such a position as not to close or partially close the casing.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York this 1st day ofMarch A. D. 1920.
