To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ALBERT Comer, and ARTHUR W. MARLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Sapulpafin the county of Greek and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertisement Distributors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The present invention relates to an aeroplane attachment, and more particularly to a device for distributing advertising matter such as bills, pamphlets, catalogues, messages, and samples of various articles from an aeroplane.

The principal object resides in providing a carrier positioned upon the aeroplane in easy reach of the pilot so that he may release the parts so as ing matter at will. 7

Another object consists in providing the carrier with a plurality of compartments containing the advertising matter, and means for releasing the matter in the various compartments separately or in unison.

A further object resides in providing forcing the advertising matter from the carrier so that it will drop free of the aeroplane and not hinder the operation of the machine.

With these and other objects in view our invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following specification and drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan,

Tn carrying out the invention we provide a carrier which may be connected to the aeroplane in any desired manner but will be so positioned as to be within easy reachcf the. operator. vided with a plurality of openings through which barrels 5 pass. These barrels are secured'at their upper ends to the under side of the top board 3 and the upper end of each barrel surrounds one of the openings formed in the board 3: A door 6 is hingedly connected to the lower end of each barrel and is held in closed position by a. catch 7 which is pivoted to the barrel at 8. As shown, the catch is formed with a right angleextension on each end, the upper extension passing through an opening adjacent the lower end of the barrel, for a purpose to be later described, and the lower extension engaging under the edge of the door to hold it in closed position.

A follower 9 is slidably mounted in each barrel and has a rod or bar 10 connected to the upper face thereof. The bars 10 are adapted to in the top board 3. A hook 11 is formed on or secured to the upper end of each of the rods or bars 10 and these hooks are used for raising the followers in a manner to be later described. A notch 13 is formed in one edge of each of the bars or rods 10 to be engaged by a catch to be later described.

A .coil spring 14 surrounds each of the rods or bars 10 between the under side of the top board 3 and the upper surface of the follower 9. These coil springs will normally tend to force the followers towards the lower ends of the barrels.

In the drawings we have illustrated the bar 18 as of less length than the bar 15, but it will be understood that the bars might be made of various lengths without departing from the spirit of the invention. From the foregoing detailed description, it is thought that the construction of our evice will be clearly understood. As stated in the objects of the invention, the carrier is adapted for distributing advertising mat-. ter from an aeroplane, and will be made of some light material which will not add unnecessary weight to the aeroplane. As previously stated, the carrier may be secured to the aeroplane in any suitable manner, while we have illustrated twelve separate drums for holding and distributingthe advertising matter, it will be understood that any number of drums might be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.

When it is desired to fill the barrels, the hooks 11, of the bars or rods 10, are engaged and the followers 9 raised in the barrels, against the tension of the coil springs .14. WVhen the notch 13 reaches the proper position the end of the bell crank lever 20 will be forced therein through action of the coil spring 22. These bell crank levers will hold the followers in raised position. and the advertising matter may be inserted through the opening formed in the lower end of the barrel. The ends 17 and 19, of the bars 15 and 18, respectively, will scrape the sides of the drum and prevent the advertising matter from sticking curved portions 16 in the drum. If it is desired to discharge the matter from the drums separately any one of the rods 23 might be operated and in turn operate the bell crank lever associated therewith.

While we have described the preferred form of our invention, it will be understood that minor changes in the details of construction and operation might be made without departing-from the spirit of the invention.

Having fully described our invention, what we clam as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An advertisement distributor comprisinga barrel, a door hinged to the lower end of the barrel, means for holding the door closed, a plunger operable in the barrel,

scrapers carried by the plunger and engaging the inner wall ofthe barrel, and means for releasing the door.

2. An advertisement distributor comprising a barrel, adoor hinged to the lower end of the barrel, a catch pivotally connected to the barrel and adapted to hold the door in closed position, a right angled extension formed on the catch and extending into the barrel, a plunger operable in the barrel, and a bar connected to the plunger and adapted to engage the right angled extension of the catch for disengaging the catch from the door, said bar having a recess intermediate its ends to normally receive the right angled extension.

3. An advertisement distributor comprising a barrel, a door hinged to the lower end of the barrel, a catch for holding the door closed, a plunger operable in the barrel, and means carried by the plunger for releasing the catch.

4. An advertisement distributor compris ing a barrel, a door hinged to the lower end of the barrel, a catch connected to the barrel and adapted to hold the door in closed position, a plunger operable in the barrel, and a bar carried by the plunger for engaging. and releasing the catch.

5. An advertisement distributor comprising a barrel, a door hinged to the lower end of the barrel, a catch pivoted to the barrel and adapted to engage the door for holding it in closed position, a right angled extension formed on the catch and extending into the barrel, a plunger operable in the barrel, and

means carried by the plunger, and engaging the right angled extension of the catch for releasing the catch from the door.

6. An advertisement distributor comprising a barrel, a door hinged to the lower end of the barrel, a catch pivotally connected to the barrel and adapted to hold the door in closed position, a right angled extension formed on the catch and extending into the barrel, a plunger operable in the barrel, and a bar connected to the plunger and engaging the right angled extension of the catch for disengaging the catch from the door.

7. An advertisement distributor comprising a frame, a plurality of barrels secured to the frame, a spring-controlled plunger operable in each barrel, a rod secured to each plunger and provided With a notch, a plurality of levers pivotally connected to the frame, one of said levers adapted to engage in the notch of each plunger rod for holding the plunger in raised position, and means for releasing the levers separately or in unison.

8. An advertisement distributor comprising a frame, a plurality of barrels secured to the frame, a spring-controlled plunger operable in each barrel, a rod secured to each plunger and provided With a notch, a plurality of levers pivotally connected to the frame, one of said levers adapted to engage in the notch of each plunger rod for holding the plunger in raised position, a rod connected to each lever, and means for operating the rods separately or in unison.

9. An advertisement distributor comprising a frame, a plurality of barrels secured to the frame, a spring-controlled plunger operable in each barrel, a rod secured to each plunger and provided with a notch, a plurality of levers pivotally connected to the frame, one of said levers adapted to engage in the notch of each plunger rod'for holding the plunger in raised position, a rod connected to each lever, means for operating the rod separately, and a crank shaft rotatably connected to the frame for operating the rods in unison.

10. An advertisement distributor comprising a frame, a plurality of barrels connected to the frame, a door hingedly connected to the lower end of each barrel, a catch pivotally connected to each barrel for holding the door in raised position, a springcontrolled plunger operable in each barrel, means carried by each plunger for releasing the catch, a rod secured to each plunger and provided With a notch, a plurality of levers pivotally connected to the frame and adapted to engage the notches for holding the plungers in raised position, and means for operating the levers separately or in unison.
