Description

lume 5, w23. E. C. MQRGAN DI S PLAY STAND 4 'Filed Ausl. 27, 1921 To all whom t may concern.'
Patented illme 5, 1923.
EDWARD CUTLER MORGAN, or 'mw Yonx, N. Y.
DISPLAY STAND.
Application led August 27, 1921.
Be it known that I, EDWARD CUTLER Mon- GAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Stands, of which the following is a specitication.d Y
This invention relates to display stands and the principal object is to produce aV V device of this nature which shall Vbe Asimple of construction, cheap vto manufacture, and highly eiicient foi-the purpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to produce a device of this type which may be capable of a large number of adjustments so as to adapt itself to' varying sizes and shapes of articles to be displayed.
With these and other objects in View, 'which will be more apparent. as the speciication proceggis, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essentialfeatures of which are hereinafter fully de scribed, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated VinV the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 isf a side elevation of my improved display stand in one position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a side elevation showing an other position of the supporting members.
Figure 4 is still another arrangement of the parts.
Like characters of reference reifer to like parts in all views.'
Referring tothe drawing in detail, it will be seen thatI this display stand is made from three lengths or sections of wire or rod, cach bent to a respective forni and all three pivotally connected. '.lhe reference numeral 10 refers to the base portion which is formed from one length of wire bent so as to form oppositely disposed njm'ardly projected end portions 1l and 1Q. Between the portions 1l Vand 12 the wire is bent to form `agplurality of legs or loops 13 the upper portion oi? each o which is 'formed with a coiistricted entrance 14 oi which the side 14l1 nearer to the portion 12 is quite abrupt and which is provided with an angular lead 15 on the sidenearer to the portion 11.
The .second length of wire is bent into a rectangular frame 16 on the longitudinal sides of which are formed ears 17. The
erial No. 495,997.
short sides of themember 16 are a triie wider than the distance across the member 10 and the short side ma be forced into any one of the leads 15 and yieldingly held therein against accidental removal. i
A foot or supporting ieee .18 Ais formed -by the third length of wlreland is pivotally secured in the ears 17 of member 16. It will be seen that this brace 18 forms a standard for supporting the memberA v16 in any adjusted position. It fill also be seen that by placing the member 18 against the variousones of the faces-14a and by inserting the lower portion of the frame 16 in various ones of the ways or apertures 14, a Very large variety of adjustments may be obtained. rlhe upper margin of. the member 16 is formed with a concave portion 19 whereby if a bottle or other round article is to be supported by the stand, it will be roperly' centered and held in place. It willJ versed from the position shown in Figure 1 the ears 17 would project forwardly and would prevent the slipping er sliding of articles from the stand ifvdesired. Particular attention is called to the fact that the base of the members 11 and 12 is seated directly on thel counter or other supporting means so that the maximum base is provided for the device. i I
By reference to the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the invention provides a display stand .which includes a base and a removable easel or supporting member, the latter not only being capable of a number of ad'ustments upon the former, but also capabie of being reversed. The stand may thus be used for a great variety of objects, as the easel may be adjusted relatively to the member 11 and reversed and similarly adjusted relatively to the member 12.
lVhile. l have described what I deem to also be v noted that if the member 16 were to be rebe the .i'iostdesirable embodiment of my in- Y vent-ion, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any' way dejmrting from the spirit of my invention, and l' therefore do not limit myself to the enact details ol construction herein set, forth" prising three sections of wire, one of said llO sectionsV defining a base and including spring' wire gripping jaws forv receiving' each o the other sec/tions, the second section bein l formed into a display support and thethir 5 section formed into a prop for such Support and pivotally connected to the latter, Said support loeinig formed or detachable lconneotion with the-wire gripping means of the' base and said prop being receivable Within sajiflv wire ripping means.
2. 1n a Yieplay rack, hecombination comprising a skeleton base having elongated coi-- rugated side bars andolevated end-bars, eachl 1 ofthe corrugatons of Saideido bars form` vw ing wire gripping means, "a frame'adaptecl f for. engagement with the vwire gripping means to provide a pivotal coiinectionwith.l
the base and a skeleton rop "substantialiy portion of said frame and pivotally `secured thereto. the outer end of said'member being nof its/,swinging am'oss the upperv end of said oeaid frame.
A dispiay vrestrictedentrance openings inclu eddn the conforming in configuration to the upperr` ment to position either at the liront or rear v v embodying a Asuiistaio-' rectangular here havin parallel eide 'fjitprifruoture 'inclu mg a 4Support rift-Wiper and a prop pivotally secured,l to the `support 30 f? and'means i'ncludedfgiiu the eide bars for, de-
f' tachably gripping'the support and remov-k ably receivng'tlie prop of the superstructure. y L 4. A display stand embodyinga substantially rectangular 'base-having parallel side bar-S, a-superstruoture icludin a support and a prop vpivotally Secured to t e support and spaced substantially U-ehaped loo s having side bars for detachablygripping the Support' and removably receiving the prop 'of at the 'frontorrear of said frame. 55.
