JOSEPH MCCRINK, OF NWARK, NEW JERSEY.
. Application filed August 30, 1922. Serial N'o. 585,123.
To aIZZ 'whom t may concern: u Be it known that l, JOSEPH MCCRINK, a citizen of the United States, and residing at- Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Bottle'Protectors, of which the following is -a speclficatlon, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the .same` r1`his invention relates to protectors for bottles 'of various kinds and classes and particularly to what are known. as nur slng bottles, and the object of the'invention 1s to pro-v vide a protector composed of 'openwork, resilien't material adapted to be mounted .on thel bottle to-prevent or'avoid the breaking of. such bottlen the event fof its being dropped onto -a floor or pavement or hit against hardbodies; a further object being to provide a.: I l
- of the bottle and 1t 1s preferred that the band protector ofthe )class specified with means for protecting the neck portion of the bottle, `said bottle being insertable into the protector throughthel bottom thereof and belng retained therein by resilient members at lthe bottom of the protector; a still further ob] ect ,being to provide a flat bottom for the protector whereby the nursing bottle may be supported in an upright position on" a table or othersupport, and with these and other objects in View the linvention conslsts 1n a device of the class and for thepurpose speci- 1 fied which is simple in construction, efficient in. use and which is constructed as hereini after described and claimed,
The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciica-tion, of which. the accomi panying drawin forms a part, 1n whlch the separate parts o my improvement are'designated by s uitable reference characters in 40 eachgo the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a side View of a nursing bottle with one-'of my improved protectors mounted thereon with parts of the construction broken away and in section.
Fig. 2 is a partial section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and,
Fig. 3 is a partial section on the line 3 3 of Flg. 2.
ln the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, my improved protector comprises a unitary cage-like structure 5 composed 'of a plurality of annular bands 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, the band 6 being the bottom band and the band 10 the top band, and these bands are joined by vertical rib members 11,
four of which are shown but any number of which may be employed.
The band 6 and rib members 11 are all composed of resilient material such as rubber or a rubber composition and the bottom Yband 6 is provided ony its inner face with a ridgeh12 'forming a seat for a nursing bottle 13, and at predetermined points preferably in line with the ribsv 'l1 are inwardly projecting keepers 14, which are adapted to extend beneath the bottom of the bottle 13 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3.' The bands 6, 7 and 8 are substantially of the-same dimensions while the bands 9 and 1() are of less dimensions than the bands 6,
7 and 8 and areadapted to lit around the neck of the bottle, the bandl 9 fitting snugly around the neck while the band 10l is preferably free from the neck or upper end portion 10 extend slightly above the t'op or upper end of the bottle proper so as to protect the bottle against breakage if it should strike a floor or the like on its upper end. 'It will also be noted that the rib members 11 which join the bands 9 and 1() or one of `said rib members may be used for the purpose of attaching a cord-or the like 15 for securing the protector to a predetermined support, as for example tio a baby carriage. 7
In the use of'my improved protector, a l' nursing bottle 13 is inserted into the protector through the bottom ring 6 thereof and forced upwardly throughithe protector or the separate rings 7 8, 9 and 10 thereof into the position shown in Fig. 1 in which position, the members 14 will spring beneath the bottom of the bottle'and serve to retain the bottle in the protector. In removing the nursing bottle from the protector, the above operation is reversed and the bottle is forced downwardly through the bottom of the protector, and it will be understood that while- I have shown a specific form of protector and of specific design, that I am n'ot necessarily limited in these respects, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described, may be made within the scope 'of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention 'or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what comprising a cage-like structure of unitary construction and consisting of a bottom rmg member,` a top ring member, intermediate ring members spaced apart by verticaly rib4 members, and said bottom ring member being provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting retaining members.

3. A bottle protector of the class described, comprising a cage-like structure of unitary construction and consisting of a bottom ring member, a top ring member, intermediate ring members spaced apart by vertical rib members, said bottom ring member being l provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting retaining members and with an annular retaining seat, and the top rlng member being of less dimensions than the bottom ring member.
4. Abottle protector of the class described, comprising a cage-like structure of/unitary construction and consisting of a bottom ring member, a top ring/member, Aintermediate ring members spaced apart by vertical rib members, said bottom ring member being provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting retaining members and/with an annular retaining seat, and the top ring member being of less dimensions than the bottom ring member, and the ring member adjacent to said top ring member being of substantially the same dimensions as said top ring member.
5. A nursing bottle protector of the class described, comprising a unitary cage-like resilient body consisting of a plurality of annular ring members joined and spaced by vertical rib members, and the nursing bottle to be protected being adapted to be inserted into the protector through the bottom ring member, means for retaining thenursing bottle in the protector, and said bottom ring member being provided with-a -fiat face to permit of the supporting of said bottle and protector in an upright position.
' 6. A nursing bott e protector of the class described, comprising a unitary cage-like,
resilient body consisting of a plurality of annular ring members joined and spaced by vertical rib members, andthe nursin bottle to be Lprotected being'adapted to e inserted into the protector through the bottom ring member, means for retainingthe nursing bottle in the protector, said bottom ring member being provided with a flat face to above the top of the bottle to be protected.
7. A nursing 'bottle protector of the class described, comprising a yunitary l cage-like resilient body consisting of a plurality of annular ring members joined and spaced by vertical rib members, and the nursing bottle to be protected being adapted to be inserted into the protector through the bottom ring member, means for retaining the nursing bottle in the' protector, said bottom ring member being provided with a flat face to permit of the supporting of said bottle and protector in an upright position, and the top ring4 member of said protector extending above the top of the bottle to be protected, and being of less dimensions than the bottom ring member.
8. A nursing bottle protector of the class described, comprising. a unitary openwork body of resilient material fashioned to conform substantially with the form ofa nursing bottle, and comprising a plurality of' ring members adapted to encircle the body ofthe bottle and other ring members adapted to encircle the neck and top ortion of the bottle, said ring members bemg joined `,by vertical rib members, and the top ring member projecting beyond the top of the bottle.
