Description

Sept. 25,1923.
G. F. DAVISON DRINKING VESSEL Filed June 5, 1922 INVENTOR.
Patented Sept. 25, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE I. DAVISON, OF LA SALLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF Old'E-HALF TO DAVID RIORDAN, OF LA SALLE, ILLINOIS.
DRINKING VESSEL.
' Application filed June 5, 1922. Serial No. 565,954.
To all whom it may concern: a
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. DAVISON, a citizen'of the United States, residing at La Salle, in the county of La Salle and State a of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drinking Vessels, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and
exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
- My invention Ielatesto drinking vessels.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a drinking vessel with means for holding a display device in position thereon,
and for preventing breakage of the vessel.
' A further object of my invention is to provide means for facilitating the handling of a drinking cup which will also prevent breakage of the cup.
Further objects will appear from the detailed description to follow, and from the appended claims.
In the drawings in which an embodiment of my invention is shown Figure 1 is a part sectional, part elevational view of a drinking glass provided with my improvement; and
Fig. 2 is a. top plan view of the drinking glass.
80 Referring now to the drawings in detail, the drinking glass 10 which is formed of fragile material, such as glass or the like, is provided with cushion members 11 and 12, of rubber or other suitable cushioning 85 material to prevent breakage of the glass in handling. The cushioning member 11 is in -the form of a shallow cup which slips on over the bottom of the glass, which is held in place by the elasticaction-of the flange 13 which surrounds the lower part of the glass. This cushioning member 11 also serves as a holding member to hold a display device 14 (shown in the form of a circular card provided with the advertising matter 15, which is visible on looking down into the glass) in position against the bottom of the glass.
The cushioning member 12 also serves to facilitate the handling of the cup, and affords a convenient means to prevent the glass from slipping out of the hand, in use. The two members together greatly prolong the life of the drinking glass, and also serve the additional purposes of holding the display card in position on the bottom of the glass and affording a convenient means to facilitate handling the glass.
While I have shown but one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that it may be embodied in other forms as covered and defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is The combination with a drinking vessel of brittle material, of a detachable display device at the bottom of said vessel, and common means for holding said display device in position and cushioning said vessel to prevent breakage, said common means comprising a member engaging said display de vice to hold it against the bottom of the vessel, and having a securing and cushioning flange of resilient material surrounding said vessel to hold said means in place on said Vessel and protect the bottom of the "essel.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
GEORGE F. DAVISON.
Witness: B. W. Hnrnnnmo'ron.
