Description

R. H MINER,
Paper-Hanging Machines.
Patented March 3. 1874.

RUSSELL H. MINER, OF ROUSEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-HANGING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. ISJQS), dated March 3, 1874; application filed November 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, RUssELL II. MINER, of Rouseville,in the countyof Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machine for Hanging Paper, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to provide means for facilitating the operation of hanging wall-paper; and it consists of a machine containing the paste and paste-roller and pressure-roller, and also the paper to be hung, the whole constructed and arranged as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Fig. l is a top viewof the machine. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, taken on the line x x, Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of Fig. 1, taken on the line y y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a box or case, which is made of tin or similar light material, sufficiently long to reccivearoll of paper, and of a depth and breadth sulicient to contain the paste-roller and the desired quantity of paste, the case being nearly square, or a quadrangle in cross-section, as seen in Fig. 3. B is the paste-roller, which 1s `revolved on pivots C C in the ends of the case.
D represents the paste. E is the paper, which is dropped into the case, and rests on the inclined hinged flap F, or its equivalent, and bears on the paste-roller, as seen in Fig. 3. Before the paper is placed in the case a metal rod or tube is inserted in the center to give the paper additional weight to keep it steady and in place. G is an adjustable head, which may be moved, by means of the screw G, to bear against the end of the roll of paper, to prevent longitudinal motion.
The pastesroller revolves in the paste, the
friction against the paper being sufficient t0 cause it to revolve when the paper is drawn out.
H is the pressureroller, which may be covered with felt or similar material. rlhis roller receives the face side of the paper, as seen in the drawing.
The paper is placed in the case, as seen in Fig. 3, and its end is hooked into the bent wires I I. J is the handle.
In hanging the paper, the machine is raised to near the ceiling, and pressed against the wall. The paper releases itself from the hooks I I, and, as the machine is brought down, the roller H vpresses the paper to the wall..
The machine is used for papering overhead, and for putting on strips or bordering in a similar manner.
By this invention the tedious operation of unrolling, cutting up the paper, and spreading the paste is obviated, and the result is avery great saving of time.
I-Iaving thus described 1n yinvention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent'- I. rlhe described machine for hanging wallpaper, consisting of the case A, paste-.roller B, pressureroller I-I, ap F, and a handle, J constructed and arranged for operating .substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
2. In combination with the machine for hanging wall-paper, constructed substantially as above described, the adjustable head G and screw G as and for the purpose specified.
