CARD HOLDER.
Application filed February 19,1923. Serial No. 620,085.
new and useful Improvement in Card- ,Holders, of which thefollowing is afull,
clear, and exact description. i
' This invention relates to card holders, and has for its object to provide a card holder adapted to receive and support a single card or a number of cards in a stack,
the holder being open at both sides thereof so that the reading matter on the cards may be exposed upon both sides of the holder.
A further object is to provide a holder which is of light weight, of rigid and durable construction and which can be economically manufactured. v
Reference should be head to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the card holder, a portion thereof being broken away and shown in a section; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the holder; Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the holder; Fig. 1 is a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the base member 10 is an elongated hollow sheet metal member open at the bottom and tapering toward the top. The base member 10 is preferably a one piece stam ing substantially rectangular in shape and aving a relatively narrow top portion to which the vertical channel-shaped standards 11 are rigidly attached. The standards 11 are secured to the base member 10 adjacent the opposite ends thereof and have their channels facing inwardly, whereby the cards may be inserted in the upper end of the channels and are-held in vertical position thereby with the reading matter on the cards exposed to view on either side of the holder.
The sheet metal base member 10 is formed with a reentrant portion along the top thereof forming an elongated substantially rectangular recess which has a flat bottom 12, parallel side walls 13 and end walls 14. The lower ends of the standards 11 are squared that is, the lower edges thereof lie in a plane at right angles to the back and flanges of the standards so that-the lower edges of the standards may rest upon the flat bottom 12 of the recess in the base 10 and support the standards 11 in vertical position. The lower ends of the standards 11 fit within the recess formed in the topofthe base 10 withthe backs 15 thereof resting against the end wallsl'e of the recess and the flanges thereof resting against the side walls 13 of the recess. The side flanges 16 of the standards 11 are extended at their lower ends to provide inwardlyextending foot. pieces orbraces 17 whichlie in the planes of the flanges and bear against the side walls 13 of the recess. Integral tongues 18. project downwardly from the bottom edges of the flanges of the channel standard adjacent the rear wall 15 and similar integral tongues 19 project downwardly from the bottom edge of the extensions 17 of the flanges. The tongues 18 and 19 of each of the side flanges extend through apertures in the bottom 12 of the recess in the base member 10 and are bent inwardly into engagement with the under surface of the bottom 12. The walls 13 and 1 1 of the recess in the base 10 cooperate with the locking tongues 18 and 19 to provide a rigid connection between the base member 10 and the standards 11. The walls 13and 1 1 bearing against the sides and back of the channels serve to hold the standards 11 against movements relative to the base 10 which would tend to straighten the bent tongues 18 and 19 and loosen the connection between the standards 11 and the base 10.
Having described my invention, I claim 1'. A card holder comprising a sheet metal base member tapering toward the top and having a flat top portion, and a pair of sheet metal standards of channel form arranged with the channels facing inwardly and having squared lower ends resting on 'said fiat top portion of the base member 7 the flanges of the channels having elongated foot portions extending inward-1y flhethe lower ends thereof and resting on the top of said base member, the flanges of the standards each having spacedr integral tongues 3. A card holder-comprising anelongated base member comprising a one piece sheet metal stamplng" taper ng toward the top and having areentra-nt portionflin the top.
thereo'fjforming a recess which has afi at channeled-top," the sides "of the channel a d r s b aring ai t. the Wa f f th channelingthe topof the base member.
4. A cardholder comprising-an elongated li'ollow'gsheet metal base member haying an open bottom, said; base member tapering toward" the top and haying at; the top' a signature.
reentrant portion forming substantially rectangular recess, and a pair of inwardly facing sheet metal channel standards having squared lower ends fitting within the zrecessiin'thetop of-the base member, the
backs of said channels bearing against the end-walls 01 said recess and the flanges thereof bearing againstthe side walls of the recess, theflanges of said channels at their lower endsbeing elongated to form inwardly extending foot portions resting on the base member each of the flanges of said 7 sta'ndardshaving an integral tongue pro botom and parallel side walls, ,and' a" pair' of inwardly facingchannel, standards} Ahav-ing squared lower ends rigidly secured to the base member at opposite ends Of thd jecting from the bottom edge thereof adjacentthe back of'the channel and an integral tongue projecting from the bottom edge of the inwardly extending foot portion, said tongues passing through apertures in the top of the base member and bent inwardly against the inner surface "ther ln testimony whereof, I hereuntoafiix my 7 ":WARWICK s; BATE.
