Description

Nov. 4 (T924. T513764 J. C. SANDERS GARTER Filed March 11 192) JOHN C. SANDERS, OF HARRISBURG, FENNSYLVANIA.
GARTEB.
Application filed March 11, 1821.
.7 '0 (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Garter, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a garter, and the invention aims to provide a garter including a relatively short elastic portion, combined with a relatively long inelastic body, the elastic portion being detachably assembled with the body, the construction being such that, when the elastic portion becomes stretched or worn, the same can be renewed at trifling cost, without rendering it necessary to throw away the entire garter.
The invention aims, further, to provide novel means for holding the elastic portion detachably and releasably but securely assembled with the ends of the inelastic body.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings 2- Figure 1 shows in perspective, a garter constructed in accordance with the invention, one end of the elastic connection being broken away; Figure 2 is a plan of the elastic connection, one end thereof appearing in section; and Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken through one end of the inelastic body of the garter and through the adjacent e e.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a pair of eyes 1, each of which, preferably, is triangular in outline. The garter includes an inelastic body 2, preferably made of webbing or some similar material. One end of the body 2 is connected by a permanent loop 3, or otherwise, to the inner bar of one eye 1. The other end of the inelastic body 2 is formed into an adjustable loop 4,. the adjustability of which Seriafl No. 451,443.
is secured by a slide buckle 5 or otherwise.
The loop 4 is engaged with the inner bar of the other eye 1. The outer bar and the bottom bar of each eye 1 cooperates to define an angle 6.
The garter comprises a relatively short elastic connector 7, made of rubber, or of the usual composite form which a piece of elastic tape takes. At the ends of the connector 7 are located projections, which may be in the form of buttons, each including an annular body 8 and a cross bar 9. The ends of the connector 7 may be fashioned into loops 1O engaged around the cross bars 9. The cross bars 9 of the buttons or projections taper from their ends toward their intermediate portions. The buttons may be inserted through the eyes 1, the compacted end portions of the connector 7 being lodged in the angles 6. Owing to the specific form given to the cross bars 9, the loops 10 at the ends of the connector 7 are compacted, and are well adapted to seat in the angles 6, as indicated in the left hand front portion of Figure 1. Tongues 11 are mounted on the lower bars of the eyes 1 and carry stocking claspS 12.
It will be clear that the relatively short connector 7, when worn or stretched, may be replaced by another connector in perfect condition, it being unnecessary to throw away the body 2 and parts carried thereby, or even to throw away the buttons which form the projections at the ends of the connector. The device is simple in construction and will not exert an undue constricting pressure on the leg. Further, it is unnecessary to make the garter in rights and lefts.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A garter comprising triangular eyes of equilateral triangular form, and including inner bars, outer bars and bottom bars of equal length, the bottom bars and the outer bars defining angles, a body having its ends connected to the inner bars, hosesupporting means mounted on the lower bar of one eye, and a connector provided at its ,ends with holding elements lodged in said angles of the eyes.
2. A garter comprising triangular eyes of equilateral form, the eyes including inner bars, outer bars and bottom bars, the bars being of equal length, the bottom bars andthe outer bars defining angles, a body having its ends connected to the inner bars,
hose-supporting means monntedl on the In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing lower bar of one eye, and a, connector proas my own, I have hereto affixed my slgnavided at its ends with buttons, the end porture in the presence of two Witnesses. W tions of the connector being lodged directly JOHN C. SANDERS.
