rA'rl-:r OFFICE.
ANDREW KUBIK, OF MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA.
CLOTHESLINE FASTENER.
Application led January 16, 1924. Sera1-No. 686,597.
To all who/m, t may concer/n:
Be it known that I, ANDREW KUBIK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Michigan "City, in the county of Laporte and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful improvements in Clothesline Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is the provision of a simple and efficient device for fastening clothes lines, and this without the necessity of forming knots, and in such manner that slack of the line may be expeditiously and easily taken up and the line tightened with but little effort on the part of the operator.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed. n
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a plan view showing a clothes line looped about a post and with my novel fastener properly applied to the line.
Figure 2 is an inverted plan view of the fastener per se.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure l and showing 'thel arrangement of the stretches of clothesl line in the fastener.
Figure 4 is a. longitudinal central section of the fastener per se.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The clothes line l is of the ordinary rope type and is shown as looped at 2 about a post 3.
My novel fastener is preferably formed of metal though it may be formed of any other material compatible with its purpose without imparting departure from the scope of my claimed invention. It comprises a sleeve 4, and for the sake of lightness the said sleeve is of sheet metal. At one end the sleeve 4 is preferably, though not necessarily, provided for bracing purposes with a transverse bolt 5 extending through the opposite side walls of the sleeve 4 and threaded to receive nuts 6 which are arranged exteriorly of said walls as illusunderstood that the said member 9 is free to be moved in the slots 7 in the direction of the length of the said slots. It is also to be understood that the slots 7 are preferably curved to a slight extent as are also other slots ll, though the last-named slots 11 are slightly curved reversely to the slots 7. In the slots 11 which are also coincident slots in opposite side walls of the sleeve 4 is a transverse rope binding member 12 which is preferably in the form of a bolt with threaded ends to receive nuts 13. The bolts and nuts are preferably in the respective rope or line binding members inasmuch as by tightening the nuts on the sleeve 4, the said members may be strongly fixed with respect to the sleeve as when it is desired to adjustably fix the clothes line.
My novel fastener is arranged as shown in Figure 1, relative to the line 1 and the post 3, and when the transverse members 9 and 12 are properly arranged relative to the clothes line and the sleeve and the line is subjected to tension, the fastener will man1- festly preclude casual loosening of the clothes line and on the other hand will strongly hold the line. 4It will also be noted that by manipulating the fastener the line may whenever desired be expeditiously and easily tightened, and when the nuts on the transverse members are turned up against the sides of the sleeve 4, the -said transverse members will be strongly fixed with respectk to the sleeve 4.
Notwithstanding the practical advantages hereinbefore ascribed to my no-vel device, it will be understood that the same is extremely simple and inexpensive in construction and at the same time is strong and well adapted to withstand exposure to the elements. In this latter connection it will be understood that the device may be constructed of galvanized iron or of any other appropriate material.
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of the parts embraced in the present and .preferred embodiment of my invention, in
order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as conining myself to the speciic construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as in the future practice of the invention various changes and modifications may be made such as fall Within the scope of my invention as defined in my appended claims.
Havin described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, 1s:-
1. 'A clothes line fastener and tightener comprising a sleevel having side Walls andI edge walls and also having pairs of coincident slots in its side walls and inclined relations of the clamping or binding members and adapted to be set against the outer sides of the side walls of the sleeve.
2. A clothes line fastener and tightener comprising a sleeve having side Walls and edge Walls and also having pairs of coincident slo-ts in its side walls and inclined relative to its edge walls, clamping or binding members disposed and ad'ustable in the said slots and having threade end portions, and nuts mounted on the said threaded end portions of the clamping or binding members and adapted to be setagainst the outer sides of the side Walls of 'the sleeve; said fastener also having adjacent to one end a transverse brace bol-t, said bolt having a head and being equipped With a thread and a nut engaging the thread, and said head and nut being arranged at opposite sides ofthe sleeve,
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. V
ANDREW KUBIK.
