BELT ATTACHMENT.

Be it known that I, EDWARD S. Barn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hammond, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belt Attachments, of which the following is afspecification.

This invention lrelates to means for attaching chains to belts and is `primarily intended to provide means for connection with the bar end of a watch chain, although the invention may be used with chains vhaving buttons or other members attached -at one end. i

Another object of the invention is the provision of means of the above character which may be slidingly mounted upon a belt and constructed of flexible material, being further provided with a flexible loop for engagement with a chain, so as not. to mar or wear the chain, as might occur with a metal attaching means. v

W'ith the above and other objects -in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, lthe reference character 10 indicates a portion of abelt, such as is commonly worn about' the waistband of trousers. .The invention which is shown as carried by the belt comprises a band 11 which is formed of a suitable flexible material, such as leather, the said band being of a size toencircle the belt in a manner to permit of sliding movement thereon.

The band 11 is provided in one face with spaced parallel vertically disposed slits 1Q and the material between these slits forms a loop 13 through which a chain 14 may be passed, the chain shown carrying at one end a bar 1.5 after themanner of the ordinary watch chain, the said bar being adapt'- ed to be threaded through the loop.

lVhile the invention is shown in connection with a chain of this character, it is obvious that a button or other member may be carried at the end of the chain instead of the bar 15. It is also apparent, that while the invention is primarily intended as a securing means for a watch chain, it may be used in connection with other chains, such as a key chain.

In Figure 5 of the drawings there is illustrated a modified form of the invention wherein a belt 1()a may be formed with spaced transversely arranged slits 12a, `so that the material indica-ted at 13 between these slits may be (formed into a loop similar to the loop 13 for the reception of one end of a chain, after the manner illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention what claimed is 1. In combination with a belt, a band formed of flexible material adapted to receive the belt, saidband being provided with spaced parallel slits in one face thereof and defining a loop for the passage of a chain.

2. A device of the character described, including a flexible band having spaced parallel slits extending transversely of the band to form a loop.

3. A device of the character describe-d including a. flexible band, having spaced parallel slits extending transversely of one side of the band to form a loop, the ends of said loop terminating a short distance from the closed ends of the band and adapted for movement laterally with respect to the band.
