Be it known that I, ANNA M. `M1crIAELs, a citizen of Germany, residing at Hinsdale, 1n the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Art of. Decorating Walls, of which the following is a speclfication.

This invention relates to improvements in the art of decorating walls, and more particularl to a novel wall decorating means, and it 1s the -principal object of the invention to provide a means for decorating walls with water colors, such as for instance, calcimine, alabastine, etc. adapted to produce a varying multi-color effect.

Another object of the invention is the pro- .vision of a means for decorating walls,

'adapted to automatically displace the decorating means for producing a uniform appearance resembling wall paper, however producing a better finish and being economical, sanitary, and consuming less time than the wall-paper hanging.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a decorating means for walls, allowing a ready exchange of the decorating elements.

, A still further object of the invention 1s the provision of a mural decorating means of simple and inexpensive construction that may be eiiiciently handled also by persons not skilled in the decorating art.

These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fu Ily known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the ap ended claims.

Fig. 4 illustrates part of a wall, decorated by the novel mural decorating means.

The decorating means comprising a frame 10 having a handle 11 attached to its end bar and having one of its side bars 12, hinged as at 13, to the end bar, carrying the handle.

The upper ends of the side bars of frame forming a 10 constitute bearings for the round ends of a shaft 14 squared intermediate its ends.

One end of the shaft projectsover bar 12 and is adapted to be engaged by a pawl or latch 15, pivotally secured, as at 16, to bar 12. The shaft 14 is adapted to receive exchangeably a drum 17 having flanges 18 and 19 at its ends for guiding the ends of a sup-v port 20 for a cloth, s onge, chamois cloth, or the like, 21, attache and held in place by pins 22, or the like.

The flange 19 has laterally disposed thereto, a cam 23 on shaft 14, having a eripheral cam groove 24, and a bracket 25 one of its arms attached to the inner face of bar 10 of the frame, while its other angular arm 26, carries a pin 27 the free end of which is guided in the cam groove 24.

In operation the drum equi ped with the suitable s onge, cloth, etc. is placed on shaft 14 and t e same is locked 1n position by means of the latch 15, and then the cloth is dipped into a bucket containing the water color, and the decorating means is gripped by the handle 11 and quickly moved over a wall to be decorated. This invention will act to displace the cam and drum in regular intervals as the drum is not as long as the shaft and will produce a design, as for instance, indicated at 28. A border such as 29, or 30, may the tool.

It is to be understood that the means disclosed as described and shown are one example only of the many ways of executing my invention into practice, and that such changes may be made in the construction of the minor details as fall within the scope of the appended claims withoutdeparture of the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire tio secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A means for mural decoration comprising a frame, a shaft in said frame, paint absorbing means for wall decoration on said shaft, and means for automatically displacing said decorating means at regular intervals during the operation of the decoration means for producing a uniform design.

2. A means for mural decoration comprising a frame, a shaft in said frame, a drum exchangeably carried by said shaft, a paint absorbing means for wall decoration on said shaft, a. means for holding said shaft to said frame, and a means for laterally displacing said decorating means on be made bysuitably guiding said shaft for producing a uniform design on a wall, during the operation of the decorating means.

A means for decorating walls comprising a frame, a handle on one of the bars of said frame, one of the side bars of said frame hingedly secured -to said handle carrying bar, bearings in the outer ends of the side bars of said frame, a shaft journaled in said bearings projecting beyond said frame, a latch pivotally secured to one of the side bars of said frame and adapted to grip over said projecting shaft and a decorating means on said shaft, and a means for imparting to said means an intermittentI lateral displacement on said shaft to produce a uniform wall decoration.

4. A means for decorating walls, comprising a frame, a shaft journaled in said frame' and having` a square cross-section intermediate its ends, a drum. on said shaft, a decorating means on lsaid drum, a cam having a cam groove laterally disposed to said drum on said shaft, and a means engaging into the groove of said cam to impart to said decorating means an intermittent lateral displacing motion for producing a uniform decorative effect on a wall.

5. In a means for decorating Walls, a frame, a shaft journaled in said frame, a drum exchangeably held on said frame, a cloth adapted to be soaked in water color, secured on said drum, and a means for imparting to said drum and cloth a lateral displacement on said shaft.
