UNITED STATES PAUL HELD, OF ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA.
WATER GOASTER OR TOBOGGAN.
Application filed April 22, 1925. Serial No. 25,156.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL HELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Cloud, in the county of Benton and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Water Coaster or Toboggan, of which the "Following is a specification.
This invention relates to a whceled-toboggan or coaster, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character to be used in connection with a chute or tracliway of the inclined type, the lower end of the trackway or chute being submerged in water so that the toboggan or coaster will pass onto the surface oi? the water and glide thereover until its n1omentum is lost.
Another important object of the invention is the provision of a coaster of this type constructed in such a way that the occupants ot the coaster may hold themselves on the coaster without tear of being thrown thererom in its passage along the trackway or chute.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view or a coaster con. structed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View there oi.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the coaster.
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of the coaster.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device includes a body portion comprising a plurality of longitudinally disposed spaced boards 5 which have their forward ends curved upwardly as at 6.
Brackets 7 are secured to the under sides of the outer boards 5 where they supporrv the wheels 8 that in turn support the weigh 11 of the coaster. Secured to the upper surface of the body portion are transversely disposed bars 9 that provide supports for the seatportion 10 of the coaster, which seat portion is of a Width less than the width of the body portion of the coaster providing spaces for the hand rails 11, that are positioned in the eyes 12 of the eye bolts 13.
These eye bolts 13 extend through the side boards 5 of the body portion and extend through the transverse bars l l that also provide means for holding the boards 5 in position. Positioned over the upper ends of the curved sections 6 of the boards 5 is a connecting member including spaced walls 15 that embrace the upper ends of the curved portions 6 to hold the curved portions in proper spaced relation with each other.
Rods indicated at 16 extend through the member 15 and have hooked portions 17 that fit in suitable openings formed in the bar 9 disposed at the forward end of the device.
From the foregoing itwill be obvious that due to this construction, a person seated on the seat portion 10 may grip the rails 11 and insure against falling from the coaster. The tracks in which the wheels 8 move, are constructed of channel irons as clearly shown by Figures 5 and 6 of the drawings, which channel irons are indicated by the reference character 18 and provide troughs through which water may be passed, giving an added thrill to the persons seated on the coaster and toboggan while it is moving over the trackway.
I claim:
In a device of the character described, a body portion including a plurality oi spaced members having their forward ends curved upwardly, transversely disposed bars sccured to the spaced members and arranged adjacent to the ends of the body portion, substantially thin bars arranged transversely of the body portion and secured to the body portion at points adjacent to the first mentioned transversely disposed bars, eye bolts extending through the bars and spaced members to secure the bars to the spaced members, hand rails secured within the eye bolts, and a seat portion having its ends secured to the first mentioned transversely disposed bars.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as I my own I have hereto aliixed my signature.
PAUL HELD.
