siding at Beatrice, in' the county of Gage' and State of Nebraska, have-invented 'anew and useful Oilcloth Fixture, of which the following isa speoiticatio ir i 7 This invention aims to provide novel means whereby oil cloth or'like material may be handled readily,- with 'a view to cut ting off the oil cloth in" predetermined lengths, it beingunnecessary to lay down the oil .cloth'on atableor counter, unroll the oil, cloth, measi'we'it, and. cut it in the usualway. I It is within the province of the-disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that typeto whichthe invention appertains.
V lVith the aboveand 'otherobjeets in view, which-will appear as t-he-descripti on proceeds, the inventionresides inthe combination andnrrangementof parts and'in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood-that, within the scope'of what is claimedychanges .in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be nuidewitliout departingizt'rom the spirit of the invention:
In the accompanyingdrawingsz- Figure]. shows in frontelevation; adovice constri-icted in accordance wi'thFthe in.- vention, parts lIieing-brokenaway, Figure 2 .is a top plan; Figure 3 is aside-elevation; Figure 4c is-a verticalseetion-on the-line of Figure 1; Figure fi-is' a-ii elevation-showiug a modified :tormof the invention, parts being broken away; Figure (i is a bottom plan of the carrier; Figure ,7 is a section on the line '7-7 of Figure 5.
In carrying out the invention, there .is provided a support or cabinet 1, including ends 2 having external transverse shoulders 23. a back 4L being connected to the ends 3.
Vertical finishing strips 5 may be secured to the forward edges of the ends 2, the finishing strips extending upwardly to a top bar 6 secured to the ends 2, as shown at 7. A. measure 8 is mounted vertically on one of the ends 2 and extends upwardly to the top bar 6. The top bar 6 is provided in its upper edge with a longitudinal groove 14, and has in its forward surface, a finger seat 15. The top 9 extends between the ends 2, and between the top bar 6 and the back l, the top 9 cooperating with the parts mentioned to define a: compartment 10' int-he upper portion of thecabinet'l; Thecabinet 1 may be supplied with any desired number of shelves i 1-1.
Thedevice includes a Ushaped frame 12 mounted for-vertical swinging movement on the cabinet 1. The frame-12 embodies side armsltitand' a =front bar 17 connected to the si-de arms by angle brackets 18or otherwise.
Pivot' eleinents 19 connect the rear ends of The de vice' includes a trough-shaped rider 22"mou'nted for reciprocation in the guide way ofwtliefront bar 17 ofthe vertically swinging frame 12. An opening 23' is formed inthc bottom of therider'22. The numeral 241-. 'n'iarlrs a carrier, including a body 25 having a: lependin g rib 26; I the rib being rec'eived within-the rider 221 A pivot element27' connects the rib'26 of thecarrier 2 l witli tlie'i'icler22, tlIP/ CZI ITlGI. thus being niou-nted for vertical swingin movement on 'tho rider; The carrier 24 *swungupwardl y with. respect; to the rider 22 through the 'instri'imeutality of a couipr'ess'ion spring 28 interposed betw'cen the bottoin portion of the rfi'de r 22 and the-lower edge of the rib 26 of thecarrier. In one endofthe carrier 2 1, a slit 29 is fashioned. The slit 29 re ceives a blade 30 extended downwardly tl'irough the opening 23 in the rider 22 and into the slit 21 of the bar 117 of the frame 12. The blade 30 has an inclined edge 31. A securing element 32 holds the blade detaohably assembled with the carrier, so that thelilade'can be removed from the carrier upon occasion, for sharpening. The spril'ig 28 elevates the carrier 24 on the rider 22 su'l'liciently so that the lower end of the blade 30 is housed in the slit 21 of the bar 17 of the frame 12 and does not project downwardly into the groove 14 of the bar 6 which forms part of the cabinet 1. The parts are thus shown in Figures 1 and at of the drawings.
The oil. cloth oroth r material which is to be severed into lengths may be stored on the shelves 11. When it is desired to cut off a length of material, the frame 12 is swung backwardly on its pivotal mounting 19, the roll of material, marked by the numeral 33, is placed in the compartment 10, the free end of the roll being carried downwardly along the measure 8, until the selected length has been secured. The frame 12 is swung downwardly and forwardly into the position shown in Figure 1'. The carrier 24: is swung downwardly on the rider 22 until the lower end of the blade 30 enters the longitudinal groove 1% in the top bar 6; The rider 22 then is moved to the left (Figure 1) the edge 31 of the blade 30 cutting off the material,
- the material being held securely, during the cutting operation, between the topbar 6 of the cabinet 1 and the front bar 17 of the frame 12. I
In Figure 5 the numeral marks the front bar of the vertically swinging frame, the bar 50 corresponding to the bar 17 here inbefore described, and being provided with a longitudinal slit 51..The carrier, corresponding to the part 2et-is marked by the.
" he body 53 of the carrier 52has a slit 5.6
whereina blade 57 extends, the blade being held in place by a securingelement 58 such as a screw, mounted in thebody 53, it being observed that one of the guide plates 53 prevents the securing device 58 from moving outwardly. The blade 57 extends downwardly into the slit 51 of the bar 50 and has an inclined edge 59. Resilient tongues 60 extend longitudinally of the body 53 of the carrier 52 and are located at an acute angle to the lower surface of the body, the tongues being supplied with upstanding flanges 61 through which pass securing members 62 whereby the tongues are held upon the body;
The tongues are spaced apart, as shown at 63,- so that the blade 57 may extend down- It will be obvious from Figure 5 that the tongues 60 tend to hold the carrier 52 in an upwardly inclined position, the lower end of thebla'de 57 beinghoused within the slit 51 of the bar50. The operator may, however, press the body 53 of the carrier 52 down-. wardly, thereby flexing the tongues 60 and moving the cutting edge 59" of the blade 57 into an operative position, below the bar.
