P; ARBON COMBINED CASING HEAD AND SNUFFER Filed June 4. 192
INVENTOR A TTORNEY Patented Apr. 27, 1926.-
PAUL ARBON, or TULSA, OKLAHOMA,
tssazae COMBINED CAS'ING HEAD AND SNUFFER.
Application filed June 4,
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUnAaBoN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing .at Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Casing Heads and Saunders, of which the following is a specification. 7
This invention relates to provision of means for snufiing or extinguishing fire in oil or gas wells and includes the provision of shading chambers in the casing head of novel construction and design- More specifically the presentinvention includes an annularcasing head of conventional design except for the provision and arrangement of the discharge passages and snuiiing chambers and intake and out passages for the latter chambers, whereby such casing head may be utilized by itself or in conjunction with the valved control heads familiar in the art, for extinguishing flames by the use of steam or any desirable chemicals.
Numerous features and advantages will more clearly hereinafter appear by reference to the accompanying specification and claims and annexed drawings in which similar characters of reference designate correspending parts throughout the several'views, in which r Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is a vertical section.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig.
l, and
Figure 4- is a section on line 4% of Fig. 1.
In detail the present invention includes a cylindrical body of suitable material internally threaded at its lower end at l for engagement with the exterior threads of the usual casing and provided at its upper end with the annular oil-set portion 2 which forms the annular recess 3 for the reception of the cap, valved control head or the like. Fasten-- ing means in the form of set screws 4 are provided and suitable packing may be utilized as shown. It will be noted that the lower portion of the body is considerably increased in thickness as at 3 for the ob 'vious purpose of reinforcing the general structure at its point of junction with the casing.
A series of radiating internally threaded discharge nipples 5 are located immediately beneath the annular oif-setportion 2 and combined control head and snufler.
1924. Serial no. 717,743.
provide connecting means for the usual discharge'pipes which conduct the crude oil from the well. It will be noted that in the present instance in pairs and the nipples of each pair are located at diametricallyopposite points in the periphery of the body; The internal threads are indicated by the reference character 6.
The snuifer is arranged beneath the discharge openings 5 and comprises chambers 7 and 8 in plan of crescent shape. These chambers are formed within the enlarged wall portions immediately above. the wall portion 3 which are indicated at 9 and 10. Internally threaded intake ports 12 radiate at intermediate points from said chambers 9 and'lO and it will be noted that the ar oFrIcE.
these nipples are provided rangement of these chambers is such that the ports are spaced equi-distant between the discharge ports 5. Thisarrangcment facilitates convenient use and manipulation of necessary tools used in connecting and. disconnecting the various pipes.
r The snufler chambers are providedwvith a commondischarge in the form of down wardly directed annular passage let, the intake end of the passage being locatedcentrally with respect to the snulfer chambers 7 and 8.
From the foregoing it will'be obvious to one skilled in the alt that the present invention forms an addition to a drilling equipment which may eliminate the use of the control head or, which may housed in conjunction with same and in both instances it provides a devicenot only serviceable and convenient in application and n'ianipulation, but strong and durable and of a design capable of providing. the essential extinguishing qualities desired. It will be seen that the present invention is designed to provide a. snutfing element to equipment at present in volving only a control head and thereby furnish both of the advantages without loss necessarily involved in the use of the In addition, the present invention facilitates'the interchanging of parts and. eliminates loss through the destruction of one of the elements where such elements are-combined.
What I claim as new and useful and de sire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A casing head including an annular body formed with a series of spaced discharge passages, snuiier chambers arranged adjacent to and in advance of said discharge passages and intake and discharge passages for said snuifer chambers.
2. In a casing head including an annular body formed with a series of discharge passages, snutfer chambers adjacent to and in advance of said discharge passages, common discharge for said snuifer chambers, and a plurality of spaced intake ports for said snuffer chambers.
3. A casing head-including a body to with discharge passages, 11- snufi'er chamber arranged in said head in advance of said passages, a discharge port for said snufier chamber and intake ports for said snutier chamber.
4. A casing head formed with a ser'es oi discharge ports, a series of snutli'er chambers in advance thereof, spaced intake ports for said snufter chambers and a common dis charge port.
7 5. A casing head formed with discharge passages, a series of snutier chambers in advance thereof, spaced intake ports for said snufier chambers and adownward y directed discharge port for said snuffer chambers.
G. A casing head formed with a lateral discharge passage, oppositely disposed snuffer chambers arranged beneath said discharge passage, intake ports for said snufler chambers, an annular discharge portcommunicating with said snutler chambers, and opening into the bore of said head in advance of said lateral discharge passages.
7. A casing head formed with a series of discharge ports, a pair of are shaped snuffer chambers formed beneath said discharge ports, intake ports for said snuffer chambers, and intake ports being spaced below and intermediate said discharge ports, and a common downwardly directed discharge port for said snulier chambers.
8. A casing head formed with enlarged extremities, the upper extremity being pro vid'ed with an internal annular channel and the lower extremity being internally threaded, discharge ports arranged at diametrically opposite points immediately beneath said upper enlarged portion, arc-shaped snutfer chambers formed beneath said discharge ports, intake ports for said snufli'er chambers arranged intermediate said discharge ports, and an annular downwardly directed discharge slot communicating with said snuffer chambers and forming a discharge port therefor.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
PAUL ARBON.
