CLAIRE P.' MUAULEY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNR OF ONE-HALF T0 REBECCA K. MORRIS AND ONE-HALF T0 JEROME H. BOULLESTER, BOTH 0F LOS AN- GELES, CALIFORNIA.
Application med nay 1,' 192,3, 'serm- My present invention is a pose-retaining doll or toy figure, and the method of making the same, it being a primary object 'Y of this invention to provide .an up-to-date l articleof the character referred to which, al-

A further object of this invention is to provide a figure of` the type known as a French vnovelty dolLfbut which I may also term a prehistoric flapper, and `which may' comprise flexible metallic elements adapted to be so bent as to-form a foundation for the4 body, head and limbs of a representation of a female figure, and which may be zo attired and posed to represent or suggest l an Egyptian dancer.
Specifically, it is an object of this invention to employ, in the production of a toy or figure, means such as a plurality of pieces of wire, preferably insulated copper wire,l

Other objects of my invention will appear from the following description of an 'em- 5 bodiment thereof, taken in connectionA with the appended claims and with the accom'- p panying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a doll of my design.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a similar doll.
Referring in detail to the form of my invention which I have chosen for -illustration, 1 is a primary piece of flexible metallic f material, such as -a fragment of insulated wire,A provided with a loop at 2, and With a constriction 3 adjacent thereto. "Intersecting the mentioned primary element in the vicinity of the constriction 3 I provide a secflexible metallic material -of the character referred to, this being preferably secured to the primary piece 1 by means such as the flexible tie 5, Athe respective sections of metallic material being of DOLL.
No. 637,260. Renewed May 10,- 1826.
suitable .length to extend to the en'ds ofthe .figure foundation by means comprising a covering of stockinet or equivalent woven or extensible textile material. This covering may be divided into any suitable number of pieces, but I find it convenient to employ one piece to extend from the junction Of vthe legs with the body over the head of the figure and down the back thereof, seams 7 and 8 being formed respectively at the sides and at the junctlon ofthe legs with the body, and suitably formed pockets of the same material being drawn or formled over the respective limbs and secured to the mentioned section covering the head and body; after which I may indicate digits by sultable stitching 9 and 10 on the feet and hands respectively, and I may indicate a face by painting on one of the fiat sides of the head, optionally employing a fragment of fringe to simulate black hair extending partially over the face, the head being bullt upon loop 2. v
A doll of the character described may be attired in any preferred manner, but I prefer to provide thereon not only a skirt 11, but a girdle 12 and a collar13, the girdle being preferably provided with a both the girdle and the collar being preferably formed of a metallic or tinseled endant panel 14 at the front thereof, and
alsV

Although I have described in detail one complete embodiment of my invention, 4it will be understood that various features thereof-may beindepen'dently used, and that.
various modifications may be made therein without departure from the spirit and scope of my invention as the sam'e is indicated above and in the following claims.

A doll frame comprising a section of wire bent centrally to provide a closed head forming loop having abutting portions forming a neck of the doll, the ends of said wire diverging downwardly from said abutting portions, a Second section of wire laid across said abuttin portions forming shoulder, arm and han portions, and a tie securing said sections of wire together at said neck forming abutting portions.
2. A doll comprising a frame consisting of a section of wire bent centrally to provide a closed head forming loop having abutting portions forming aneck for the doll, the ends 'of Said wire dlverging downwardly from said abutting portions, a second section of wire laid across said abutting portions forming shoulder, arm and hand portions, a tie securing said sections of wiretogether at ends of said wire diverging downwardly 'from said abutting portions, a second section of Wire laid across said abutting portions forming shoulder, arm and hand portions, a tie securing said sections of wire together at said neck forming abuting portions, a padding of cotton batting covering the wires to simulate a head, neck, body, legs and arms, a iabric holding the padding in place, a fabric forming a. skirt extending from the lower part of the body downwardly, means forming a girdle and a. pendant panel, and means for forming a collar.
