The present invention relates to belts and more particularly to the type designed for personal wear, an object of this invention being to provide aconstruction in which there is provided anovel elastic means which permits .the expansion of the belt when in use. A further object of the inventlon is to provide a construction in which the elastic means is enclosed and is so mounted that an inconspicuous belt construction is provided.

To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 indicate two belt sections, each of which has a reduced portion 3 secured to a loop at which by a reduced portion 5 connects with a smaller loop 6, the two loops 6 being connected together by an elastic means 7 of any suitable construction. In order to enclose the elastic means and, at the same time, to bridge the joint between the two belt sections-1 and 2 a bridge piece is employed embodying, in this instance, two layers 8 and 9 stitched together at their edges as at 10 and providing between them a pocket in which the elastic connection 7 and loops 6 lie. The front layer or wall of the bridge piece is provided with openings 11 and through these openings the reduced portions 5 extend. Guiding straps 12 are secured to the outer face of the bridge portion near each end of the latter and through these guiding straps the reduced ends 3 of the belt "sections 1 and 2 pass, thus holding the belt sections to the bridge piece, beyond the openings 11.

In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4: the belt sections 1 and 2 and reduced portions 3 which connect directly with loops 6 are connected by the elastic means 7 The brldge piece formed by the layers 8 and 9 stitched together at 10 has openings 11 through which the reduced portions 8 pass the product of a belt of substantially uniform width throughout its length and this is due to the fact that the reduced ends of the main section pass through slots in the outer face of the central section away from the ends of said central section to connect with the elastic connection within the central or bridging section.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A belt embodying two sections of substantially uniform width throughout the greater portion of the length of each and having reduced end portions, a bridging section having a central portion of substantially the same width as the major portions of the sections, said bridging section being provided with straps on the outer face thereof under which the reduced portions of the first two named sections may pass, said bridging section also being provided with a pocket having slits at opposite ends on the outer face of said section, and an elastic connection arranged in said pocket and connected with the reduced ends through said slits.
