ann STATES PATENT OFFIGEQ WILLIAM OLSON, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-SPRINKLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,698, dated March 9, 1875 application filed June 25,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM OLsoN, of Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento, and in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Sprinklers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for sprinkling clothes for ironing and for other purposes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same partially broken open to show the interior.
Arepresents a cylindrical reservoir, of rubber or other suitable elastic or yielding material. One end of this reservoir is closed by a head, 13, which is grooved circumferentially and held bymeans ofa wire, a, fastened around it and pressing the reservoir into said groove. In the other end of the reservoir is inserted, and in like manner fastened, another head, 0, from the center of which projects a tapering tube, D. At the outer end of this, tube is formed or attached an ordinary sprinkler, E,
as shown. Inside of the reservoir A, across the same, is placed a spiral spring, G, the ends of which bear against two metal plates curved to correspond with the interior curvature of the reservoir.
By compressing the reservoir A and immersing the sprinkler E in water, and then releasing the pressure on the reservoir, the water is at once drawn up into the same. The spring G, by its action on the interior of the reservoir, presses it out very quickly, and thus draws the Water up therein much quicker than it otherwise would.
This device may be used for various purposes, such as sprinkling clothes for ironing, sprinkling house-plants, washing windows, Ste.
I do not claim an elastic bulb or reservoir provided with a tube and sprinkler, broadly, as I am aware that such is not new. Nor do I claim, broadly, the use of a coil'spring in connection with a flexible bulb, as such has been used in breast-pumps.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
The interior coil-spring G and plates H H, in combination with the elastic cylinder A, taporing tube D, and sprinkler E, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of June, 1874.
. WILLIAM OLSON.
