DOOR STOP.
Application filed September 16, 1926.
This i1wention relates to a door stop 01 device f01 maintaining a door in a predetermined open position. As is more 01" less com1non experience, doors often a1e slanunecl, closecl, due to drafts or sudden gusts Wind 01 from ether causes, and this often results in serions inconvenience and s01necimes in more 01 lees damage.
Tl1e object of the imention is tl1e provision of a simpl v and inexpensively constructed device and at the same time 0ne that may be readily applied t0 yeldingly 1naintain a door 01 0ther springing; objectin an open positien s0 as te overcome tl1e diflicult v and inconvenience to Wl1icl1 refe1ence has been made. In ca1rying out the invention tlxe stop made in accordance tl1erewith is preferably constrncted from a strip 01 1net1al 01 simila1 1naterial s0 as to include angularly disposed legs adapted t0 engage respectiwly with a 'acc 01. a door ja1nb and the adjacent edge portion of a door, together with a third leg 01 its equivalent 01 completing the aiticle and eausing the same t0 yieldingly maintain the door in an open position, and means by which the device may be 1nain tained in place b v association with a l1inge 01 otherwise, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use of a door stop made in accordance vvith ny invention.
Fig. 2 is a seetional plan on an enlargecl scale.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the struelu1e shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 1 is a view similar to Fig. 2 sl1owing another form of t-he invention.
Fig. 5 is a plan of the construction sh0wn in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Figs. 2 and 1 showing still another form of the invention. and
Fig. 7 is a front elevation of the door stop illustratecl in Fig. 6.
In the drawing I have illustratecl a part of a door ja1n as indicated at 10 and a door 11 connectecl the1eto by hinges 12, one of which is indicated at 12. As illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the dravving the door st0p may be made 1'1'0m a strip of suitable 1netal 01 si1nilar material so as to include a circular 01 looped portion 13 having a leg 1 1 and also a leg 15 extending therefrom. These leg members a1e preferably at, right angles te Serial 1\T0. 135,745.
each other. 'lhe leg 15 is provided with an extension which for1ns a t-hird leg 16 013 a triangular strncture. The extrenaty of the leg 14- is piefeialoly turned at 1ight angles tlieieto as indicaled at 17 and the leg 16 is so placed that the free end 18 thereof bears against the enter face 0 the leg 14 adjacent tl1e oithnned end 17 thereof whicl1 acts as a stop f01 limiting tlie resilieney 0 the lege 1 1 and 15. In tl1e nse of this form 01 the imention the loop 13 is so EO1JGCl as to be adapted t0 fit mei the head 19 of the pin by wl1ich the knuckles of one of the hinges are c0nnected. In s0 applying the device when the d0011 is opcned an approxirnate right angle position tl1e leg 14: is adapted t0 lie against a port0n of the 'ace of tl1e door jan1 and the leg; 15 to lie against a portion 01? the 'ae 01 edgge of the door 11 so as to yeldingly 1nantain the deel in this positi0n. t will be undersueod 0 course, that when it is clesired to close the door the stop device must be removed.
In the form of the invention sl10wn in Figs. 1- and 5 the stop is also made of a strip of suitable metal s0 as to be provided Will1 a loop 20 adapted te fit a pin of a hinge 21. n this structure the angnlarly disposed leg me1nl0ers a re indicated at 22 and 23. The leg 22 tenninates in an extension 24, the extremity 25 of which is preferaloly bent at 1ight angles thereto. Similarl} the leg 23 terminates in an extension 26 the extre1nity of which is turned at 11gl113 angles thereto as indicated at 27. The extensions 241 and 26 are in align1nent so that the extremities 25 and 27 are substantially parallel to each other. These extremities 25 and 27 are pro vided with tapped openings 1:0 receive screw threaded pins 28 and 29 extending from a disk 80. The screw threads on the pins 28 and 29 are preferably iight and left handed so that by turning the disk whieh is pref erably knurled t-he extremities 25 and 27 may be 1noved toward 01 away from each other t0 effect an adjustment of the step. In this strueture the loop 20 may be so 0rmed as to replace one of the knuckles 015 the members of the l1inge, in which instance as Will be un derstood, it Will be necessary te re1nm e and replace tl1e pin of the hinge in setting the doorstop in position.
In some instances it may be desirable to have the door stop permanently associated With the door jam. T0 provide sueh a struc-
