- UNITED- STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY GOWER HOSE, 0F BROOKL YN, NEW YORK.
CHANGEABLE'FEATURE FIGURE TOY.
Application filed January 15, 1926. serial No. 81,427.
devices are provided for changing the expl'c-r'sion of one or more of such features and lhcrchy the expression of the whole face, and more specifically still the invention relatcs, in certain embodiments thereof, to a representation 011 cardboard or the like of a face, with certain of the features thereof delineated thereon, provided with apertures formed in such face behind which apertures are pivotally mounted rotatable disks having features impressed thereon which are adapted to be successively and independently brought into register with their respective openings.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and easily operated toy of the character described, which shall be capable of economical manufacture.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of various devices, elements and parts, as set forth in the claims hereof, certain embodiments of the same beingillustrated in the.
accompanying drawings and described in this specification.
In the accompanying drawin s,
Fig. 1 is a front view of a evice of the character described, showing one modification of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front view of a modified form of the invention; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section along the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In carrying my invention into effect according to the embodiment thereof which I have illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings, I provide a piece of cardboard or the like 11, upon which are impressed certain features, such as a nose 12, ears 13,. and the like. A pair of openings 14, 14, are provided approximately in the location of the eyes of such a face, and an opening 15 approximately inthe position of the mouth.
Pivotally secured to the member 11 at 16 are a pair of members 17 17, the main portion of which members 17 lies behind the member 11 but a slight portion of .which projects laterally beyond the edge of the member 11.
Pivotally secured to the member 11 at 18 is a member 19, the main portion of which lies behind the member 11, but a slight por- -tion of which projects downwards beyond the lower edge of the member 11.
Upon the members 17 may be printed features, as 20, and upon the member 19 may be printed features as 21.
The operation of this embodiment of my invention will be well understood from what has been above said. It is obvious that by merely rotating one or more of the disks 17 and 19, amusing variations in the expression of the face may be produced.
In carrying my invention into effect in the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings, I provide a face member 31 analogous to the member 11 shown in Figs. '1 and 2. This face member 1s provided with eye openings 32 and a mouth openlng 33,'as well as such other features as may be desired to be delineated thereon. Pivotally secured to the member 31 at 34 is a rotatable member 35, the main portion of which member 35 lies behind the member 31 but a slight portion of which projects laterally beyond the edge of the member 31. Upon the member 35 may be printed features, as 36 and 37.
The operation of this embodiment of my lnvention is entirely analogous to that of the previously described embodiment, with the exception that in this case only one disk is rotated.
The advantages of my invention will be obvious from what has been above said with regard toits construction and operation.
I do not limit myself to the'exact form of construction which has been above described and is herewith illustrated, as it is obvious that various departures therefrom can be made without leaving the spirit and scope of my invention. For instance, it may sometimes be preferred to provide the device with a handle,so that the same, in addition to its amusing expression-changing operation, may
