UNITED STATES STEFANO LA MARCA, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ADJUSTABLE SHOE. f
Application filed February This invention relates to a device for adjusting shoes to fit the wearer.
An object of the invention 1s to a'ccom-4 plish the foregoing result without interfering with the neat appearance of the finished shoe. f
Another object of the invention is to provide a means of making the shoe comfortable to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to pro-- vide a means of support for the toes and arch of the foot.
A further object of the inventionfis the novel manner of constructing the several elements comprising the device.V
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a central vertical section through a shoe with my improved device attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the shoe as shown in Fig. 1. l
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the adjustable member, partly in section.
F ig. 4 is a rear elevational view of the adjustable member.
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view ofthe adjusting screw as used in connection with my improved device.
Referring to the drawing illustrating one construction of my inventionfor accomplishing the hereto before mentioned results. The shoe, has a sole 10, a heel 11 and upper 12 and heel pad 12, of common ordinary construction, such as usually found in shoes, foot wear, and the like. 1
The adjustable member 13 is suitably bent or formed, as at 14 to fit the toes, and eX- tends under the ball of the foot, and has side depending elements 15 to support the arch. The tubular member 16 is rigidly attached underneath the said adjustable member, by the depending flanged element 17, as at 18, by rivets, or the like. The tubular member 16 has a longitudinal threaded axial aperture to accommodate the screw threads 19, cut or otherwise formed on the adjusting screw 20, which is provided with a head 2l, of any suitable shape, having a slot 22, centrally located therein.
Referring in particular to the 'application of my improved device to the shoe, foot Wear, or the like. The adjusting screw 20 is located 2, 1926. Serial No. 85,481.y
inl the sole 10of the shoe, directly above the heel 11, the head 21 is flush with the outer edge of the sole 10, adjacent to the backy of the heel 11, there being a suitable slot 10 formd in the sole 10 to accommodate rotatively the adjusting screw, the index plate 23, which is located at the rear of the sole 10, adjacent to the head 22, to expose a neat outward finish. yThe adjusting screw 20 is provided with a locating collar 24 threaded thereon, and having. protruding portions 25, to prevent the said locating collar 24 from turning. It being understood that the above described operation is performed before my improved device is built into the sole 10, of the shoe. The above mentioned construction being such as will hold the adjusting screw 20 in a fixed relative position in the sole 10 ofthe shoe, when the said adjusting screw 20 is turned or rotated, by a coin, knife or any similar instrument, placed in the slot 22 ofthe hea'd 21, which will cause the adjustable member 13 to be forced longitudinally forwards or backwards in the shoe, it
being understood that tubular member 16 1s threaded on the adjusting screw 20, by the means as hereinbefore set forth and described. It will be understood that the loeatingl collar 24 is positioned against any convenient position of the sole of the shoe, so a's to maintain the relative position of the said adjusting screw 20. It will be further understood that the sole 10 of the shoe is out orotherwise formed vto allow the tubular member 16 to be manipulated as above described.v
It will be also, understood that the head 21 of the adjusting screw 20, and the index plate 23 may have suitable marking therein, as at 27, to indicate the amount that the adjustable member 13 is moved.
It is, of course, to be understood-that the invention may be constructed in various other measures and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do vnot on said inner sole forr receiving the toes of` the foot to prevent extension thereof beyond the end of said inner sole.
