Description

S. WHITLOCK' SAFETY S'LIP FOR NURSING BOTTLES Aug. 2; 1921. 1,637,719
Original Filed. 1112.26, 1924 Patented Aug. 2, 1927.
UNITED STATES SALLIE WHITLOCK, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SAFETY SLIP FOR NURSING BOTTLES.
Application filed August 26, 1924, Serial No. 734,187. Renewed May 24, 1927.
My. invention relates to nursing bottles for children, being more particularly a cover, for the bottle, of rubber or similar composition.
The principal objects of my invention are to provide a slip or cover, of the class described, which is of silnple form and construction so designed that it will fit the common form of nursing bottle and when in use will prevent the breaking of the bottle,
thereby lessening danger of injury to the child from the broken bottle and also preventing the spilling of the contents of the bottle.
The slip as designed by me has also the desirable features of assisting in keeping the milk warm, and also prevents the slipping away of the bottle during feeding of the child.
Referring to the drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only,
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the safety slip embodying my invention as applied to a nursing bottle, the nipple being in place on the bottle.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the complete article shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and i Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the top of the nursing bottle and the upper end of the slip.
Referring to the drawings, 11 designates.
a common form of glass nursing bottle, the mouth of which is formed with a rim 12 arranged to be engaged by the common rubber nipple 13. The slip or cover 14 comprises an elastic rubber body 15 arranged to snugly fit the sides of the bottle 11, the lower end of the body 15 being closed by a. wall- 16 which terminates in an ing reinforcement or flange 17,-which, if desired, the bod 15 is 0 sufficient length to engage at its open end 18 directly under the nipple 13 so that the glass bottle is entirely covered by the nipple 13 and the slip or cover 15, with the exception of a vertical slot 20 formed in one side of the body 15, through which the bottle 11 and its contents may be viewed, such openin 20 forming what may be designated a sight opening. I preferably form.
outwardly extend-' may be made of harder rubber than portion 15 of the slip. The body b a flange or rib 21 at the upper end of the body to reinforce the same, such flange or ribs being similar to that indicated at 17. These flanges or ribs 17 and 21 not only reinforce the body of the slip or cover, but also materially assist inpreventing the milk bottle and its cover from sliding away from the child during the feeding operation.
Formed on theopposite side of the body 15 are oppositely disposed integral handles 22 having a sufficient longitudinal length to permit the child to firmly grasp; such handles and retain hold on the slip and bottle therein. 1- preferably form a rib 23 about the sight opening 20, to strengthen the edge.
-I claim as my invention:
1. For use upon a glass nursing-bottle, a removable rubber slip shaped to snugly fit the bottle, a rib at the top and bottom of said slip and a handle formed on opposite sides of said slip, said slip having an elongated slot formed therein constitutinga sight opening, the rubber about said opening being raised to form a rib at the edge of the opening.
For use upon a cylindrical glass nursing bottle, a removable cylindrical rubber slip shaped to receive the bottle, said slip having a bottom formed integral therewith, and handles formed on said body, said body having a sight opening therein.
3. For use upon a glass nursing bottle, a removable rubber slip shaped to receive said bottle, said slip having a sight "opening formed therein and oppositely disposed integral handles on said slip.
4. In combination, a cylindrical glass nursing bottle, a rim formed around the mouth of said bottle, a rubber slip shaped to fit said bottle, the upper end of said slip terminating short of the rim on the'bottle,-a nipple on said bottle engaging said bottle etween the rim thereon and the upper end of said slip, handles formed on said slip, and ribs on said slip at both ends thereof, said slip having an elongated sight opening therein.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set' California, this my hand at Los Angeles, 19th day of August, 1924.
SALLIE WHITLOGK.
