IMPROVEMENT IN Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
PEGATONIOA, ILLINOIS.
PORTABLE STOVES.
164,341, dated June 8, 1875; application filed April 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SELINA THOMPSON, of Pecatonica, in the county of Winnebago and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a stove, to be used either in the house or out of doors, for baking and other culinary purposes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal vertical section of my stove.
The body A of my stove is made of double tin in any suitable form, but preferably in oval shape, and is supported upon legs B B. In one side of the stove A is a door, 0, and in the interior of the stove are skeleton shelves or gratings E, upon which the articles are placed to be baked. Near each end of the stove A passes a vertical pipe, D, made of sheet-iron, galvanized iron, or other suitable material, and extending through the stove and a suitable distance above and below the same. At the bottom of each pipe, D, is a projecting hearth, a, and a draft-aperture, b, is made in the side of the pipe above the hearth, which aperture is closed by a slide, d, as shown. Above the draft-aperture 1), within the pipe is located the grate e, which may be on a line with the bottom of the stove, or below the same, as shown. The fuel is put in from the top of the pipes D, and ahinged cap, it, at the top retains the heat and prevents the fuel from burning out too fast. Coal, wood, charcoal, or other fuel may be used, and as the heat radiates directly within the stove articles placed therein will soon be baked. This stove may be used either in the house or out of doors, and can be placed in any position where needed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the stove A, having tical pipes D, with hinged caps h h at the top, and provided with hearth a, draft-aperture I), slides d, and grates e at or near their lower ends, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of March, 1875.
