The general object of my present invention is to provide a window cleaner of the indicated type improved in various particulars whereby to promote convenience and effectiveness in the use of the cleaner.
tinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of thisl specifican tion, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a window cleaner embodying my present invention showing the same disposed for use on a window sash shown in part.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on an en larged scale of the upper portion of the window cleaner.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the attach-l ment at the upper end of one of the handle members.
Figure 4 is a cross section on the line 4-1-4, Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary planview show-k ing a portion of one of the fabric strips. v
' In carrying out my invention in accordance withthe illustrated example two handle members 10 are provided joined by across bar 11 adapted to be grasped by the user of the device. Two cleaning heads are provided designated generally by the numeral 12. Bails 14, 114 are pivotallyV secured to the respective heads 12. said bails having pins 13, 113 secured to the respective handles 10. the pins 13 beinginserted directly in the end of one handle member 10, and the other pins 113 being inserted in rolled edges 115 of a.

Each head 12 `is adapted te *f ceive cleaning fabric 17 wound on shafts 16 on the bails ,14, 114, and said fabric runs from said shafts 16 and are wrapped about an adjacent head 12. Those portions of the fabric strip 17 positioned at the ends of the heads 12 have water repellent zones 117 to confine the wet portion of the fabric substantially to the rubbing faces of the heads 12.
At one face of each head 12 the said head carries a sponge rubber 27 or equivalent absorbent material inthe `form of a pad;V A
The nature of my invention and its dis i926. serial no. 130,021.
The element 15 is semi-circular in cross section, see Figure 4, and is pivoted as at 23 remote from an end of one of the handle members 10 to lie against said handle member and to swing toward and from the same which will bey clear from a comparison of Figures 2 and 3. A spring 24 is interposed betweenthe elementl and the handle member 10 to which it is pivoted as shown clear# ly in Figures 2-and 3, and tends to throw said 'element 15 outwardly at an angle to the handle member 10. The element 15 is locked against movement to its outer position by spring 24 through the medium of a suitable' latchV means which advantageously takes the form Vof the strip 25' projecting laterally through a hole 26 in element 15 so that the teeth of saidstrip 25 will engage said elef ment 15 to hold it close to handle member 10. l
The clamps -21 are adapted to kreceive scraper blades, blades. When these are to be used the fabric strip 15 isrolled on to shaft or roller 16 that the blade may be employed for scraping the window pane.
I would state furthermore, that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limiti `to hold the pivoted 'element adjacent the handle member to which it is pivoted7 said latch means being mounted on said last mentioned handle member, rollers turnably preferably safety razor'.
