Application filed Aprfl 22, 1920 Serial No. 375,742.
My inventionrelates to improvements in scissors and particularly to that type of scissors whichare stamped out of sheet metal; and the objects of my, improvements are to provide an instrument of this character which will be neat in appearance, low in cost and practical and serviceable in use.
I attain these objects by tlfe device illustrated in the accompanying drawings,.in
which; v
Figure 1 shows a plan View of the scissor.
Figure 2 shows a vertical section on the line 2, 2, of Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a vertical section on th line 3, 3, of Figure 1.
Figure 4 shows a vertical section on th line i, i, of Figure l.
Figure 5 shows a vertical sectionon the line 5, 5, of Figure 1.
Figure 6 shows a vertical section on the;
line (i, 6, of Figure 1. p Figure 7 shows a perspective view of the lower blade and handle of the instrument. Figure 8 shows the bearing washer 1n perspective.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several vlews.
Referring to the drawings; an upper and a lower blade 1 and l. are movably attached to each other by means of the rivet 2, and furtherbearing is provided by the washer 3, which is placed between the blades 1 and l and held in place by the rivet 2. The material of the blades 1 and 1 is extended'and 85 formed toprovide the shanks 4 and 4, and
the shoulders 5 and 5, and is further extended and formed to provide the rings 6 and 6. The blades 1 and 1 are concaved to give rigidity and strength, and the metal eifected.
scissors from sheet metal; but believethat on the shank portions 4t and 4 is bent back 40 on itselfgiving greater strength and pro-- vidinglrounded surfaces where the fingers of the usercome in contact therewith; it also forms the shoulders 5 and '5 by which the permanent adjustment of the blades is The metal forming the rings (Sand 6 is bent back on itself from the inside of said rings thus forming rounded surfaces thereon and permitting'ease ofoperation by the user. An annular washer 3 placed between the blades at the joint ensures free.- .domof action and the maintenance of proper relation between said blades.
I am aware that it is old to produce I am the first to form the shanks and rings and to provide the shoulders in the manner shown in theaccompanying drawings and herewith described. l Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following:
In a scissors constructed of sheet metal, a pair of bladesof concave form, shanks extending from the base portions of the said blades andhaving the metal thereof turned over against itself, and rings at the ends of the said shanks having the metal from their central portions turned-upward and over against the outer parts thereof and having" portions of its edges in registration with the turned over material of the aforesai shank. j
Signed at New York city in' the county of New York and State of New York this 20th i day of April, A. D. 1920.
