JAR WRENCH.
applicati med June s, 1925. serial No. :z-,310.
This invention relates to improvements in fruit jar wrenches and contemplates the provision of a rubber cup shaped member which closely resembles the configuration 5 of the usual and conventional form of Mason fruit jar top or lid, and which includes corresponding threaded portions upon its inner side and adapted for frictional engagement with the corresponding threads provided upon the outer side of the jar lid and which further includes a central `opening in the top thereof in order that when the operator when so grasping the rubber wrench and compressing the same in order to bring its threaded portion into frictional contacting engagement with the threads provided upon the jar top will be readily and easily done owing to the opening provided in the top of the wrench which allows such compression. n
Another object of my invention is that owing tothe construction of the wrench, being rubber, will not in any way injure the hands of the operator in so far as it is 25 resilient and will not even make the voperators hands sore from constant use.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter morefully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
.Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view of the upper portion of a Mason fruit jar with the top applied and showing my present invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a perspective of my invention with parts cut away and showing the construction thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan View.
Figure 4 is a bottom lan view.
Referring to the rawng in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character indicates a Mason fruit jar, 11 the usual and conventional form of jar top therefor, and 12 the rubber washer' arranged between the lower edge of the jar top 11 and the shoulder of the jar 10. `All of the above is of the usual and well knownconstruction, or preferred type, and which forms no part 0f the present application for Letters Patent but is merely shown for purposes of lll illustration in bringing forward. the novel advantages of the above entitled invention. The lnvention resides 'in the provision of s a wrench in the form of a cup shaped mem- V ber 13, whlch is preferably formed of rubl fruit jar top or lid 11 and be firmly grasped therewith in order that a rigid grasp may be facilitated so that an operator when placing his hand over the cup shaped member or Wrench 13 and compressing the 'same in order to bring the threaded portions 15 within the grooves or threads provided in the outer sides of the jar cap or cover 11 and in so compressing the same will allow such compressed portions upon the top thereof to decrease the size of the opening 14, thus allowing and facilitating the compressing of the cup shaped member or wrench 13; and when so compressing and twisting the cup shaped member or wrench 13 in unison with the jar cap or cover 11 in a clockwise or counter-clockwise movement, it will be noted that the jar cap or cover 11 may be readily and easily removed from the Jar .10 and the hand of the operator will at no tlme engage or touch the jar cap or cover 11 and thus preventing scars, bruises, sore places, calli, and cuts as now experienced in the use of the tools and wrenches employed owing to the fact that these sometimes slip and endanger the hand of the operator.
It will be noted from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that p this invention provides an exceedingly useful and advantageous article and tool for use by preserving companies, canneries and in the home and which owing to the simple construction thereof ma?,T be manufactured in great numbers and sold at a very nominal cost.
The invention is susceptible of various chan es in its form, proportions and minor detai of construction, and the right is E memes herein reserved to make such changes as material to provide grippinvP surfaces and I properly fall within the scope of the aphaving a central opening in ille top thereof' 10 pended claim. and the inner side walls of said cup-shape Having described my invention what is member being threaded for engagement b claimed is: with the corresponding threaded portions A jar wrench of the character described upon a fruit jar rop. comprising -a cup-shaped member formed in f n testimony whereof I ax my signature. its entirety from flexible resilient pliable A CARL H. VIEBROCK.
