YDh is invention relates in general to hinged closures for stoves and the like, and more particularly to a door and frame formed to cooperate therewith that are particularly adapted for use on ovens and the like.

An important object of the invention is to provide a door that may be assembled to and disassembled from a frame from the outside and such a door and frame that will be of simple construction.

Another important object of the invention is to provide such a door in which the hinge pins are located entirely Within the front face of the door frame so that there will be no projections on the face of the frame and such construction that may be readily attached and detached by merely removing separable parts of the frame and lifting the door bodily therefrom.

Another important object is to provide a simple hinge construction for doors'or closures of this type and one in which a type of coil spring may be used that is already in common use in stoves.

Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection with thezaccompanying drawings, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.

shown substantially rectangular. hinge pin 13 is provided that may be a separate rod or the like extended through the door and laterally therefrom at each side, or may be provided in any suitablema'nner, such as by casting separate pin portions integral with the frame and. to extend laterally there from at each side. Thehinge :pin is preferably fluted or notched as at 14 to provide a seat in which an end 15 ofa spring16 may engage. The spring 16 may be a coil spring or any other suitable spring, that may 'be positioned over the pin 13, and one is :preferably provided for each pin. An end 1 7 of the spring 16 is formed to extend lateralb from the spring and to engage the frame in any suitable manner or substantially as shown.

The frame 12 may be'of any suitable form and may be formed of one or more pieces as desired and for attachment to the stove in any suitable manner. In the preferred construction the frame 12 iscast in onep'iece and with a substantially flat front face. A portion of the frame and at each side there? of, that may be of any suitable shape or outline, is set backand formed to provide a hinge pin seat or -a -one-half bearing 18 for the hinge pin 13,, anda cover plate 19 is formed to fill in the set back portion of the frame and for attachment to a stop web 21 thereof by means ofa screw 22 or a like fastening device, so that it may be readily removed therefrom and will hold the hinge pin 13 against th'ehearing portion 18 of'the frame, a web 23 of the plal'e 19 being formed substantially as shown (Fig. 5) and having a portion 24 arranged to embrace aside of the pin. 'One or more lugs 27 may be formed on the cover plate for supporting the outer edge thereof against externally applied forces. A web portion of the door is preferably extended down to adjacent the hinge pin 13 to provide a projection 33 suitably formed for limiting the downward movement ofthe door.

Where t-Wo springs 16 are used these springs are assembled on the hinge pins 18 substantially as illustrated. The hinge pins are positioned against the one-half bearing portions 18 at each side of the frame. A hinged closure for stoves and the like comprising, a door having hinge pins extending laterally therefrom, a frame having a portion formed to provide a one-half bearing for each hinge pin and located rearwardly of the front face thereof, a spring mounted on said hinge pin and engaging a portion of said frame to urge said closure to normally closed position, ,and parts detachably secured to the frame and providing the remainder of the bearings for the pins.

A hinged closure for stoves and the like comprising, a door having hinge pins extending laterally therefrom, a frame having a portion formed to provide a one-half bearing for each hinge pin and located rear- Wardly of the front face thereof, a spring mounted on said hinge pin and engaging a portion of said frame to urge said closure to normally closed position, and separable parts formed to hold the hinge pins against said one-half bearings and to lie entirely Within the front face of the frame.

A hinged closure for stoves and the like comprising, a door having hinge pins extending laterally therefrom, a frame formed to provide bearings for said hinge pins, and a coil spring arranged over each said hinge pin and engaging in a recess therein, said coil springs having laterally extending portions for engaging the frame.

A hinged closure for stoves and the like comprising, a door having hinge pins extending laterally therefrom, a frame formed to provide bearings for said hinge pins, and a coil spring arranged over each said hinge pin and engaging in a recess therein, said coil springs having laterally extending portions for engaging the frame and said frame having removable parts for facilitating the removal of the door.

A hinged closure for stoves and the like comprising, a door having hinge pins extending laterally therefrom, a frame formed to provide bearings for said hinge pins, and a coil spring arranged over each said hinge pin and engaging in a recess therein, said coil springs having laterally extending portions for engaging the frame, said frame having removable parts for facilitating the removal of the door together With the hinge pins and springs.
