UNITED STATES LOUIS LEVIEN, NEW YORK, N. Y.
SERVING TRAY.
Application filed August 18, 1927. Serial No. 213,964.
My invention relates to a new and improved combination serving tray and cigarette container.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a combination device of the character above specified which can be readily and cheaply manufactured from glass or other suitable material.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device which shall occupy a minimum space and which shall be convenient for use.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate preferred embodiments thereof, it being understood that the above general statement of the objects of my invention is intended merely to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.
Fig. 1 is a top view of the improved tray. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 illustrates another embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 4.
The serving tray is preferably made of lass or other ceramic material which can Es pressed or molded into shape. However,
the dex ice may be made of any suitable metal or any other suitable material.
The said tray is provided with two circular recesses 12 formed therein during the press ing and molding operation. It is also pro vided with av raised rim 10 provided with depressions or recesses 11 which are adapted to serve as cigarette holders.
The central part of the tray is raised to form an integral extension 17 which can serve to hold cigarettes, and said cigarette compartment 17 is provided with recesses 14 in the side walls thereof by means of which the cigarettes can be conveniently taken out of the cigarette compartment.
The circular end recesses 12 are adapted for holding glasses G.
The cigarette compartment 17 may be provided, if desired, with a cover 15 having a hand-held 16, but said cover is ordinarily not necessary and my invention is not limited 5 to the use thereof.
It is obvious that the entire device (save for the cover, which may be omitted) can be.
niade by suitably molding a single piece of g ass.
Hence, the device can be made at minimum cost because it requires no assembly of the various parts and no fastening connections are necessar which might become loose and thus affect t 1e efiiciency of the device.
While the lasses G are shown in this embodiment as eing located in depressions of the top of the tray, it is obvious that raised rims could be provided in the top of the tray, similar to the cigarette compartment.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the tray has a rectangular instead of the oval shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Otherwise, the construction is substantially the same.
I have shown preferred embodiments of my invention but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made without departing from its spirit.
I claim 1. A serving tray having a central rectangular receptacle molded integrally therein and continuous with the top surface thereof, said receptacle extending upwardly from the surface of the said tray and having slots therein so that cigarettes could be readily removable therefrom and a series of circular retaining portions-integral with the body of said tray on each side of said receptacle adapted to hold a glass or the like, and a series of slots on the rim of said tray adapted to hold cigarettes therein.
2. A serving tray having a central rectangular receptacle molded integrally therein and continuous with the top surface thereof, said receptacle extending upwardly from the surface of the said tray and having slots therein so that cigarettes could be readily removable therefrom and a series of circular retaining portions integral with the body of said tray on each side of said receptacle adapted to hold a glass or the like, and aseries of slots on the rim of said tray adapted to hold cigarettes therein, the entire body of said tray forming an integral continuous glass unit.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
LOUIS LEVIEN.
