COMBINATION" PORTFOLIO vAND '13RIEJECASE.
' Application filed August 25, 1927. serial Ira- 15, 77.
It is an object'ofthis inventionto provide a combination portfolio and briefcase so that in one article a salesmancan carry descriptive and illustrated matter mounted in a'binder in such form that theleaves therein may be readily shown to a customer, and at the same time to provide carrying capacity for correspondence and all other necessary data. Y
vide a combination portfolio and briefcase whercinthe former is adapted to open so that its covers form two sides of a triangular stand with a binder between the inner ends ofthe covers at the apex; and to attach a briefcase container toone of the covers,
and flap, tohol'd both the portfolio and briefcase container in close other cover. 7 i v Having thus briefly outlined the major purposes of the invention, I will now proceed to describe an embodiment thereof with the aid of the which:
position, to the briefcase container open and the portfolio slightly; opened. I
Figure 2 shows the invention with the being used as a stand and I c Figure 4 is an enlarged viewof the invention with the portfolio fully opened and on its side and thev briefcase container open.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and Qdesig'' nate two substantially rigid coversconneeted 1 at their inner ends by'a flexible connection 3 to which a binder 4 tohold the leaves 5 is secured. 6 designates an.extension, also sub stantially rigid, securedto the outer end of the cover l-bya flexible portion? and to V the outer endof the extension a holding strip 8 isconnec ted by another flexible portion 9. When the portfolio is closed the extension 6 and the holding strip 8 lie againstjthe leaves 5 with the flexible portion 7 arranged around the-outer ends of the said leaves. Fasteners 10 on the cover 2 towards its outer end usually engage corresponding fasteners 11' on the extension 6 to hold the latter. in
position. WVhen the portfolio is in use the outer side of the covers 1 and 2are turned towards one another as shownin F lgure 3.
The extension 6 is employed to form a third Another object of the invention is to pro accompanying drawings, in
Figure 1 illustrates the invention with the ;to. secure by Letters Patent is:
side of the trian ular stand and the fasteners l0 cooperate with fasteners 12 on the it holdingst-rip -S, whiclrin this caseis upturned'from the flexible portion The cover 1 also forms the back of a briefcase'containcr 14 which projects outwardly from the said cover, and extending laterally from the cover 2 is a flap 15 having fastening inea-ns, such,as a fasteneral'dora strap 16 7 V thereon to coact. with the fastener. 17 or the buclde 17* on the outer side, of the container when thewhole device is inclosedposition. On the. inner side of the container 14 a fas tener 18 is provided to engage a fastener 19' :ont'he outer side. of the cover,1,-which, also forms the, back portion of the briefcasecon- Y tainer. These fasteners 18 and 19 may be utilized to prevent the contents from falling out when the portfolio is in use as a stand.
21 indicates a handle securedto the flap 15 7 so that the whole carried.
While in the foregoing the preferred em bodiment ofthe invention has been described and shown, it is understood that the construction is susceptible to such modifications as fallwithin the scope ofthe appended device maybe readily claims. I WhatI claim as my invention and desire 1. A. combination portfolio and briefcase comprising two covers connected at their. inner ends, one ofsald covers hav ngan extension thereon adapted to engage the other cover when the coversare opened up to form a substantiallytriangular stand, means for supporting leaves between said covers,
:said extension disposed between the covers and over the leaves when the covers are closed, a briefcase containerj'on the-outside i of one of the covers, a flap projecting from the other' 'cover, and meansfor securing said flapsover the open end of said container to, hold the latter and said portfolio'in closed position. l d y 2. Acombination portfolio and briefcase 7 comprising two covers connected at their inner ends, one of; said covers having an extension'thereon adapted to engage the other cover when the covers are. opened up 19 to forma substantially triangular stand, means for supporting leaves between said covers, said extension disposed between the covers and over the leaves when thecovers are closed, a briefcase container on the outstantially side of one of the covers, said container having its open side substantially at right angles-to the inner end of the cover on which it is mounted, a flap projecting laterally from the other cover, and means for securing said container on the outer side of one of 'said' covers, a flap pro ect1ng from the other cover, means for holding the sides of the container together at its open end, and said flapheing adapted to cover the open end of said container and hold the la ter and the portfolio in closed position.
4. A combination portfolio and briefcase comprising two coversconnected at their inner ends, said covers being adapted to open so that their outersu'rtaces are towards another to'form two sides of a substantially triangular stand means for supportingleaves between said covers, means for holding the outer ends of said covers in spaced relation to one'another, a briefcase container @111 the outer side of one of said covers having' its open endsnhstantially at right [angles to the inner end of the cover on which it laterally from the-other cover, means for holdingthe sides of the container together at its open end, and said flap being adapted or to cover the open end'ot said container and hold the latter and the portfolio in closed position.
