COMBINATION LAMP AND SMOKER'S STAND.
Application filed October 11, 1926. Serial Ne l 10,968
' The present invention relates to a 00111- bination lamp and smokers stand, and has for its object to combine with a floor, table or other lamp, a smokers stander. cabinet, in order that the lamp may be used as a humidor or container for cigars, cigarettes. tobacco, and other smokers materials and appliances.
Another object of the invention is to combine with anelectric lamp, an electric cigar or cigarette lighter, whereby same will serve as a handle or tassel for lighting and ex.- tinguishing the lamp as well as providing a convenient means for lighting cigars and cigarettes.
With the foregoing and other object in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is an elevation ofthe improved combination lamp and smokers stand.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view showing the lighter and its connection with the lamp fixture.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The improvements are illustrated as being.
embodied in a floor lamp, although they may be incorporated in a table or other lamp. The lamp shown comprises the base 7 from which the standard 8 rises, and a suitable electric fixture 9 is mounted on the upper end of the standard and includes the electric lamp sockets 10 receiving the electric bulbs 11. The sockets 10 have the depending pull chains 12 which are spring-retracted, so that by pulling said chains the switches within the sockets may be opened and closed, as well known, for extinguishing and lighting the lamp.
In combinin the electric cigar or cigarette lighter wlth the lamp, a cord 13, containing electric wires, is tapped into the fixture 9 and its wires are electrically connected with the electric supply wires, in order that the wires ofthe cord are connected to the supply of electric current. The cord 13 forms a pendent at one side of the standard 8, and the electric lighter 14 is connected to the lower free terminal of the cord and contains a suitable electric switch operated by a plunger 15 for bringing the lighter' into and outof operation. The electric lighter is thus conveniently assembled with the lamp to be used for lighting cigars and cigarettes.
The cord 13 also serves as a pull cord for lighting and extinguishing the lamp conveniently, and the lighter l l provides a handle or t-asselto be grasped for-pullingthe cord 13. Thus, a yoke 16 ,isprovided to connect the cord 13 with the chains 12. Said yoke comprises the bars17 having the offset portions 18 at their ends and offset portions 19 intermediate their ends to embrace the chains 12 and the cord 13, respectively. Screws 2O connect the bars 17 between the offset portions 18 and 19, for clamping said bars together, thus fastening the yoke 16 to the chains 12 and cord 13. The cord 13 has a slack portion above the yoke 16, to permit the cord 13 to be pulled downwardly for pulling the chains 12 which are normally yieldingly retracted into the sockets 10, as well known. Thus, by pulling the cord 13 the lamp maybe lighted and extinguished. The cigar or. cigarette lighter is thus assenr V bled with the lamp without producing an unsightly appearance, and isreadily accessible such as when reading under the light of the lamp, and the lighter 14 itself may be of ornamental appearance, such as inthe form of a tassel.
The base or body 7 is preferably hollow and has hinged doors 21 at opposite sides and hinged doors 22 at its upper end, which may be swung open for exposing receptacles for cigars, cigarettes, andtobacco. Thebase 7 may also have a drawer 23 thereinbetween the doors 22 for receiving ashes. In this way, a humidor may be combined with the lamp for the convenience of a smoker while using the lamp in reading, and when the doors 21 and 22 are closed, the lamp will be of neat appearance without the cigars, tobacco or cigarettes being visible.
The combination lamp and smokers stand is intended especially for use by smokers, and when the doors 21 and 22 are closed, the-lamp will serve for the usual purposes without appearing unsightly.
Having thus described the invention, what is'claimed as new is 1. A device of the character described comprising a lamp fixture having a lamp socket with a pull chain, an electric cord connected to said fixture and connected to said pull chain for operating said chain,
and an electric cigar and cigarette lighter connected to said cord and serving as a handlefor pulling the cordand chain.
'2. A device of the character described comprising a lamp fixture having electric lamp sockets provided with pull chains, an electric cord connected to said fixture, a cigar and cigarette ligl'iter connected to said cord, and means connecting said cord with said chains for simultaneousl T Jullin the chains signature.
chains with the cord slackened above the yoke so that the cord may be pulled for simultaneously pulling said chains, said lighter serving as a handle for pulling said cord and chains.
4. A device of the character described comprising alamp fixture having electric lamp sockets provided with pull chains, an electric cord connected to said fixture, a cigarand cigarette lighter connected to said cord, and a yoke comprising bars and means for clamping them together, saidbars having ofi setportionsembracing said cord and chains, the cord having a slack portion above said yoke, said lighter serving as "a handle for pulling said cord and chains.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflixmy OTTO A. SCHUCHERT.
