IMPROVEMENT l N REVERSIBLE LOCK-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 70,004, dated November 16, 1875; application filed September 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LYON LEWINE, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Reversible Lock-Buckle, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a top View of my improved buckle, the cap being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a section of the same, taken through the line as a, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line yy, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention. is to furnish an improved buckle for trunk-straps, and for other straps and uses, which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and reliable in operation.
The invention consists in an improved buckle, formed by the combination of the baseplate, the cap, the beveled pin, the spring, and the movable disk with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the base-plate, which is designed to be secured to a trunk, a strap, or other object to which a strap is to be buckled. To the plate A is secured, or upon it is formed, a cap, B, through which, parallel with the said plate A, is formed a slot, 0, of a proper size to receive the strap to be buckled. Through the center of the bottom of the cap B is formed a hole to receive a pin, D, the lower end of which is secured to the free end of the spring E. The other end of the springE is secured to the disk F, near its edge. The disk F is placed in a cavity between the base-plate A and the cap B, and has a hole through its center for the passage of the pin D. The upper end of the pin D is beveled off upon one side, as
. shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that whenthe strap .is drawn in the direction of the incline it will force down the spring E and slip past the said pin but when the strap is drawn in the other direction it will press against the straight side of the pin D, so that it cannot be moved. The
middle part of the base-plate A is cut away,
' so that the free or inner end of the spring E can move down as the pin D is depressedr To the disk F is attached, or upon it is formed,
a lever, G, which projects through a slot in An improved buckle, formed by the combination of the base-plate A, the cap B, the beveled pin D, the spring E, and the movable disk F with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
LYON LE WINE.
