CAMPERS OUTFIT CASE.

Application filed March 6, 1928. Serial 'No. 259,540.

This invention relates to improvements in campers outfit cases of the kind adapted to be unfolded into a table top and supported by a plurality of chairs.

An object of my invention is to provide a foldable case for containing a number of chairs having side members which whenunfolded form a table adapted to be supported by the chairs.

Another object of my invention is to .pro-

vide a foldable case'wherein is embodied a construction having fneans therein for attachment to chair supports and which is adapted to be unfolded into a table top. I Another object of my invention is to provide a chair having a construction adapted to be folded into a compact form for convenient carrying in a foldable case.

Other objects more or less apparent will present themselves or will be specifically pointed out in the description to follow.

In the accompanying drawings:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a foldable case embodying my invention showing in dotted lines the position of the parts thereof when they are unfolded;

Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my improved case showing the chairs attached thereto in a supporting position;

Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the chairs showing the same partly folded; and

Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the case.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents the sides of my improved case, having secured thereto inwardly disposed bottom members 2 joined together by hinges 3, inwardly disposed side members 4 and inwardly disposed top members 5. The top members 5 are provided with co-operating latch means B which are adapted to engage with each other and normally maintain the case in a folded position. Secured to each of the top members 5 are outwardly and inwardly disposed projections 6 which together with the said top members form an enclosure having one side openthat is adapted to contain the top part of a chair for supporting the case in an unfolded position. Secured to the top of the projections 6 are handles C which serve as means for conveniently carrying the case.

size and shape, is adapted to contain a number of chairs for use with the case when the same is unfolded into a table top.

. The bottom members 2 of the case are each provided with a projection 8 and an indention 9, each being so arranged that one fits into the other when the case is completely unfolded. The projections 8 are preferably made of rubber and are adapted to serve as resting means for the case when the latter is placed on the ground. Each of the chairs, which may be used as the supporting means for the case when the same is unfolded into a table top, comprises two pairs of to maintain the two pairs of legs in a fixed relationship to each other.

One. of each pair of the legs 10 has a' slotted bar 13 pivotally attached thereto, and each of the other two legs is provided with a pin 14 which slidably extends through the slot in the bar. The slotted bars 13 serve as means for maintaining the legs in an unfolded position. Secured to the ends of each of parallel disposed legs 10 are connecting bars 14 which have a flexible seat 15 attached thereon. Pivotally attached as by pins to the upper ends of two of the parallel legs 10 is a U-shapedback supporting member 16,- having its horizontally disposed part bent upwardly as at 17. Pivot ally attached, as by pins 18, to and between the upwardly disposed parts of the U-shaped back supporting member 16, is a board 19 which serves as a back rest for the chair. The board 19 is attached to the U-shaped member 16 at points above its center and the same is adapted to be turned upwardly so that the normally disposed lowerpart rests against the upwardly bent part 17 of the horizontally disposed part of the U-shaped member 16, thereby enabling the back of the chair to be considerably lengthened.

The two pairs of crossed legs 10 may be moved on their pivotal pins 11 until they lie adjacent'and parallel to each other, with the cloth seat 15 folded upon itself, and the slotted bars 13 also positioned between and parallel to the crossed legs. The 'U-shaped member 16 can then be moved on its pivotal pins until its upwardly disposed parts lie adjacent to the folded and now parallel legs 10, with the back board 19 also positioned against the folded legs. When the chairs are thus folded into compact form they may be satisfactorily placed into the case for convenient carrying.

When it is desired to use the case for a table top, the latching means B is unfastened and the sides 1 are opened until the bottoms members 2 lie against each other. Two of the chairs are then unfolded and the back boards 19 are placed into the recesses located It is obvious to those skilled in the art that my invention may be embodied in forms other than that illustrated, so it is desired that the a pended claim be considered broadly as de n' tion may assume.

Having described my invention, What I claim is:

In a device of the class described, a foldable case having two side members hinged together, each side member having a plu rality of projections and a plurality of indentations located on its bottom side, certain of the projections being adapted to fit within certain of the indentations when the side members are placed in an unfolded position, and a plurality of supports for supporting the side members in an unfolded position.
