SHA1/'ING BRUSH.
appneation and apra ia,
The present invention relates to improve ments in sbav brushes anc has for its principal object to provide a brush wherein a` collapsible tube containing the shaif'ing cream forms the handle portieri for the brush, means being provided for feeding the shaving cream to the bristles of the brush.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide what is known in the art as a fountain shaving brush, a
.ly operable cut oil' valve being provided for ci'introlling the supply f the shaving cream through the bristles, the parts being so constructed as to enable the same to be readily and easily assembled or disassembled Whenever necessary.
A further object is to provide a siaving brrr-:h of the above n'ientioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Utl er objects and advantages of the invention Will become apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
ln the accompanying drawing wherein like numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a side eleva-tion of the shaving brush embodying my invention, the bristles being confined Within a cylindrical cap when the brush is not in use.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional vien7 throi gh the brush, and
Figure is a transverse section taken apinonimately on the line 8-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrow.
1n the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a circular body member that is formed with the central threaded opening for accommodating the externally threaded neck or discharge end of a collapsible tube 3 that contains shaving cream. The forvvard end of the central opening being gradually reduced to form a restricted discharge opening` 11. The rear face of the body member 1 is slightly beveled as illustrated at 5 *ith reference more particularly to Figure 2 in order to accommodate the flared portion 6 of the collapsible tube 3.
This body member 1 is also externally threaded, and a lnurled flange 7 is formed at the outer or rear end of this body to form 1928., Serial No. 259,463.
a hand grip for the purpose to be hereinafter more fully described.
A sleeve or collar 8 has its rear end internally threaded for engagenient over the threaded member 1 and the lmurled vflange 7 slightly projects beyond the rear edge of the collar or sleeve. This collar or sleeve is formed in its inner face With a longitudinally extending groove or channel 9 Within which is disposed the pin 10 that projects radially from the outer peripheral 'edge of the disc 11 that is disposed Within the intern'iediate portion of the collar or sleeve 8 for lisposition against the front face of the body member.
yllhis disc 11 is formed With a central paste discharge opening 12 for registration with the restricted discharge opening el. rlhe rear face of the disc 11 is furthermore provided With the cut out portion 13 in which is operable the gate valve 14e, the same being vpivoted at 15 and the outer reduced end 1G of this gate valve that forms a. handle extends radially through a slot 17 formed in the intermediate portion of the sleeve or collar 8, this slot 17 communicating with a out out portion 18 also formed in the rear face of the disc 11 adjacent the outer edge thereof and which communicates With the centrally located cut out portion 13 as clearly shown in Figure 3.
The inner end portion of this gate valve 11- is formed with an opening 19 that is nor mally out of registration with the discharge opening 12 formed in the disc 11, a spring 2l) bein arranged in the cut out portion 13 gate valve in such a position that the opening 19 is out of communication with the opening 12 and thereby cut-ting off the discharge of the shaving cream from the restricted discharge opening t to the opening 12 in the disc.
A circular relatively thin plate 21 is also arranged Within the sleeve or collar 8 for disposition against the front face of the disc 11 and this plate 21 is formed With a central opening` that communicates with the opening 12 of the disc 11. An elongated metallic tube 22 extends forwardly from the central portion of this plate 21 around the opening formed in said plate and this tube extends into the bristles 23 of the brush, the inner ends of the bristles being secured Within the e,forward end of the sleeve or collar 8 in any appropriate manner, and the inner ends of als these bristles engage with the front face of the metallic plate 2l as clearly shown in Figure 2,
The forward end of the metallic tube 22 threaded for detachably receiving thereon the rubber' nipple 24: that also is confined within the outer end portions of the bristles as shown in Figure 2.
ln operation, when the parts are assembled as shown in Figure 2, it Iwill be readily obvious that when the handle 16 of the eatc valve i4 is swung in the direction of the arrow, the opening 19 in the gate valve will be disposed in registration with the opening 112, and by exerting pressure on the tube $5, the shaving cream or paste will be forced through the registering' opening into the tube Q2 and through the nipple 2l whereby the paste will be extruded into the outer end portions of the bristles 23 so that the user can readily apply the shaving cream to his face and worlr up the necessary lather prior to shaving.
By releasing the handle 16, the spring will automatically move the gate valve to a closed `position, thereby cutting olf further supply of the shaving cream to the bristles of the brush.
lWhen the tube 3 has been completely en'iptied, it may be removed and replaced with a new one.
ldlhen the b h is not in use, a cylindrical cap such as iown at 25 is disposed over the bristles and the inner end of this cap is threaded on the forward threaded end portion of the sleeve.
It will thus be seen from the forgoing description, that l have provided a fountain slniving brush which will at all times be positive and efficient in its operatori, and due to its simplicity of construction, the parts can be readily and easily assembled or disassembled whenever necessary.
.Vhile l have shown the preferred em bediment of my invention, whatl l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is, as dei'ined by the appended claims wherein minor change' in the invention as to size, shape and arrangement of 'parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
l claii'n:-
