UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PIN HOLDER.
Application led .Tune 2,
The invention relates to means for holding a paper strip of pins for convenience in removing the pins from the strip, and has for its object the provision of a casing having 5 hinged cover to permit insertion of a paper strip of pins with means for engaging the paper strip of pins and feeding it through an opening provided between the cover and the casing.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of the pin holder,
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional View on a plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on a plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
In the drawings similar reference characters will be used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved pin holder comprises a casing 1 having a cover 2 hinged to the casing as shown at 3. The edge of the cover 2 remote from the hinged portion 3 is provided with an outturned flange 4, and the adjacent edge of the casing 1 is provided with an outturned flange 5 spaced from the flange 4 to permit egress of the paper pins A. The flange 4 has a serrated section Gwhich may be as shown in the drawings at one end of the flange or may extend the full length of the flange as desired to provide means for tearing off the projecting port-ion of the paper strip A to permit exposure of the pins B as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
J ournaled in the casing 1 adjacent to the elongated opening 7 formed by the spaced flanges 4 and 5 is a shaft 8 having a knurled button 9 for manual operation of the shaft, and provided with teeth 10 at spaced intervals to engage the paper strip A, and the shaft 8 is covered with resilient material such as rubber indicated at 11 intermediate of said tooth portions 10 and at the ends of the shaft inside of the casing providing a roller for engagement with the pins B. 12 indicates a 1928. Serial No. 282,424.
shaft journaled in the casing 1 and forming one side of the rectangular frame 13 on which is journaled a roller 14 that also engages the paper strip A, 15 designating a spring lever vhaving arms 16 engaging the sides of the frame 13 and having another portion 17 engaging the casing and holding the roller 14 in engagement with the paper strip A.
18 indicates a crank arm on one end of the shaft 12 to actuate the frame 13 to lift the cover 2 when it is desired to insert a paper strip of pins in the casing and 19 is a contractile coil spring connecting the cover 2 and shaft 12 to normally hold the cover 2 in a closed position. Cover 2is provided With a recess 20 that may be used as a pin tray or to receive a pin cushion.
What is claimed is 1. A pin holder, comprising a casing having an elongated opening therein for egress of a paper strip of pins, a manually operated roller journaled in the casing adjacent to said opening, a spring actuated frame journaled in the casing, a roller journaled on said frame and coacting with the first roller to feed the strip through said opening, a cover hingedly engaging the casing and engageable by said frame to open it, and spring means normally holdin the cover closed.
2. A pin hol er, comprising a casing, a cover hingedly engaging the casing, the cover and casing having outturned spaced flanges providing egress for a paper strip of pins, a manually operated roller journaled in the casing adjacent to said opening and having teeth to engage the paper strip, a frame journaled in the casing, a roller journaled on the frame and coacting with the first roller to actuate the paper strip, spring means actuating the frame into engagement with the strip, a crank arm on one of the journals ofy the frame to actuate the frame to move the cover into open position, and spring means engaging the cover to hold it in normally closed position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
THOMAS F. BOGGS.
