My invention relates to driers, and the principal object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device of this type.
In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part of this application I have shown, for purposes of illustration,
one form which my invention may assume,

Figure 1 is a general view of this illustrative embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22of Figure 1,
Figure -3 is a longitudinal section taken on the line-33 of Figure 2, while Figure 4 is a diagrammatic representation of the electrical system.
The embodiment of my invention herein shown comprises a fan 11 secured to one end of the shaft 12 ofa motor 13 which carries at its forward end a heater 14 and a lamp socket 15 both supported upon an insulating base 16 carried by two arms 17 extending outwardly from lugs'18 formed on the housing 19 of the motor 13, the entire fan-motor-heater-socket unit being supported from a supporting ring 20 by means of chordal lugs 21 integral with the supporting ring 20, radial lugs 69 integral with the casing of the motor 13, and resilient connections between the chordal lugs 21 of the supporting ring 20 and the radial lugs 69 of the casin of the motor 13 comprising flanged rubber ushings 70 mounted in a ertures 75 in the radial lugs 69, and machme screws 76passing through a the bushings 70 engaging in cooperatinglyi screw threaded apertures 77 in the chor lugs 21.
The entire unit is enclosed by a pair of casing sections 22 and 23 which overlie reduced shoulders 24 and 25 formed respectively on the rear and forward side of the supporting ring 20, and are secured to the ring 20 in any suitable manner, as by machine screws 26 extending through the casing sections 22 and 23 into the reduced shoulders 24 and 25 respectively, and the supporting ring 20 and the entire unit carried thereby, including the casing sections 22 and 23, are supported by a means of a bracket 27 integral with the sup porting ring 20 and itself provided with a circular projection 28 adapted to be held by means of a bolt 29 in cooperatingly pivotally adjusted relation to a similar circular pro]ection 30 carried by a block 31 rovided with a pin 32 arranged to be rotata ly received by opening 45 to hol the bell 34 quickly detachany suitable socket, asby a recess in the top of a suitable support-ing stand.
The casing section 22 is provided with an inlet opening closed by means of a wire screen 44, the casing section 23 is provided with an outlet opening 45 having a beaded edge 33, the socket 15 is provided with a lamp 46, and with a reflector 47 directing the light and heat from the lamp 46 through the outlet opening 45, and the various parts of the drier, including the fan 11, and the casing sections 22 and 23, and the chordal and radial lugs 69 and 21, and the casing of the motor 13, and the heater 14, and the reflector 17, and the opening 45, are all so formed and proportioned and positioned that the air drawn in by the fan 11 through the opening. 43 in the casing section 22 is given a rotating or swirling motion which is permitted to persist throughout the entire length of the casing 23 so that the air emerges through the opening 45 still swirling and only at the periphery of the opening 45, and there is produced a secondary air. current flowing into the opening 45 through the center of the swirl drawn in by '80 the suction produced by the swirl itself.
Under certain circumstances, however, I may desire to direct the air as a stream comingfrom a nozzle of relatively small cross section, and accordingly the embodiment of my invention herein shown comprises also a bell 34 adapted to close the opening 45, provided with indentations 35 adapted to engage rearwardl of the bead 33 about the 9O 1y assembled on the casing 23, and provided centrally with an apertured projection 36 over which is stretched a resilient tube 37 terminating in a rigid nozzle 38.
Also under certain circumstances, either with or without the nozzle attachment, I-may desire to insert in the air an additional substance to be carried by the air, such as a disinfectant, or perfume, or the like, and accordingly the embodiment of my invention herein shown comprises means for inserting a substance of this character, this means bein herein shown as comprising a ring 39 secured to the exterior of the casing 23 adjacent the opening 45 to form an annular pocket 40 surrounding the casin 23, containing a wick 41, receiving 1i uid t rough an inlet opening 42, and yiel ing this fluid as vapor into the air stream through a series of openings 71 connecting the annular pocket 40' with the I nected by a conductor 61 to one terminal of the lamp 15, and also connected by means of a conductor 53 to a switch arm 54 havin four operating ositions in the first of wh1ch it enga es a lank contact 55, in the second of whic it engages a terminal 62 connected by means of a conductor 63 to one terminal of a variable resistance 72 having its second terminal connected by means of a conductor 73 to one terminal of the motor 13, in the third of which it engages a blank contact 74, and in the fourth of which it engages a first terminal 66 connected by means of a conductor 67 to the terminal 62, and a second terminal" 64 connected b means of a conductor 57 to one terminal o the heater 14, the other terminal of the heater 14 andof the lamp 15 and of the motor 13 being connected b a common return conductor 68 t0 the termmal 51 of the switch 50, and thus to the line wire 48.
From the above description 'itwill be understood by those skilled in the art that by placing the switch 50 in the second position I energize the motor 13 and fan 11 without energizing the heater 14, and that by placing the switch 50 in the fourth osition I enerze both the motor 15 and an 11 and also ie heater 14, that the lam 15 may be energized at any time indepen ently of the ener- K gization of either the motor 13 or the heater 14, depending 'onl on the position of the switch 60, that un er any of these conditions I may or may not insert vapor into the air stream, andthat under an combination of any of the foregoing conditions I may or. may not utilize the nozzle attachment.
Under these circumstances those skilled in the art will realize that I-have produced a new and improved drier, and accordingl that I have accomplished at least-the principal object of m invention. At the same time those skille in the art will realizethat the particular application of my invention herein shown and described embodies advantages other than those specifically pointed out or suggested herein, and also that this particular embodiment of my invention may be variously changed and modified without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing these advantages, and it there fore will be understood that the disclosure herein is illustrative only, and that my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim:
1. A blower comprising: a casing provided with an inlet, and with an outlet, and with a pocket, and with aperturing connecting said 'ocket to the interior of said casing; a motoran unit disposed in said casing and operable to draw air in through said inlet and expel such air through said outlet; and means for inserting a fluid into such air to be carried thereby, comprising a wick disposed in said pocket to yield fluid present therein, as vapor, through said aperturing, to such air.

4. A blower comprising: a casing provided with an inlet, and with an outlet, and with an annular pocket, and with aperturing connecting said pocket to the interior ofsaid casing; a motor-fan unit disposedin said casing and operable to draw air in through said inlet and expel such air through said outlet; an electric heater disposed in the path of such air ahead of said aperturing for heating such air before such air reaches said aperturing; and means for inserting a fluid into such air to be carried thereby, comprising a wick disposed in said pocket to yield fluid present therein, as vapor, through said aperturing, to such air.
5. A blower comprising: an annular spider; an electric motor carried thereby in wardly of the periphery thereof with its axis substantially in alinement with the axis of said spider; an elongated tubular casing secured to said spider, projecting on one side of said spider to form an intake chamber and there provided with an inlet opening, proecting on the other side of said spider to form an outlet chamber and there provided wardly of the periphery thereof with its axis substantially in alinement with the axis of said spider; an elongated tubular casin secured to said spider,projecting on one si e of said spider to form an intake chamber and there provided with an inlet opening, and projecting on the other side of said spider to form an outlet chamber and there provided withan outlet opening; a fan disposed within-said casing operable by said motor to draw air in through saidinlet opening and expel such air through said outlet opening; an means associated with said blower for inserting vapor into such air to be carried by such air, comprising a pocket formed on said casing and opening into said casing, and a wick disposed in said pocket to yieldsfiuid present therein through said opening as vapor to such air.
7. A blower comprising: an annular spider; an electric motor carried thereby inwardly of the periphery thereof with its axis substantially in alinement with the axis of said spider; an elongated tubular casing secured to said spider, projecting on one side of said spider to form an intake chamber and there provided with an inlet opening, and projecting on the other side of said spider to form an outlet chamber and there provided with an outlet openinga fan disposed within said casing operable by said motor to draw air in through said inlet opening and expel such air through said outlet opening; an electric heater disposed within said casing in the path of such air for heating such air; and means associated with said blower for inserting vapor into such air at a point beyond said heater to be carried by such air, comprising a fluid-containing pocket formed on and opening into said casing at a point beyond said heater.
8. A blower comprising: an annular spider; an electric motor carried thereby inwardly oi the periphery thereof with its axis substantially in alinement with the axis of said spider; an elongated tubular casing secured to said spider, projecting on one side of said spider to form an intake chamber and there provided with an inlet opening, and projecting on the other side of said spider to form an outlet chamber and there provided with an outlet opening; a fan disposed within said casing operable by said motor to draw air in through said inlet opening and expel suchair through said outlet opening; an electric heater disposed within said casing in the path of such air for heating such air; and means associated with said blower for inserting-vapor into such air at a point beyond said heater, to be carried by such air, comprising a pocket formed on and opening into the interior of said casing beyond said heater, and a wick disposed in said pocket adapted to yield fluid present therein as vapor into such an.
