This invention relates to a structure capableof use as a dr1er for corn, fruit, Vegetables and the like and which if desired may be used as a sifter or in many other different 5' ways. V 1
The primary object of this invention `is the provision of a structure of this Character wherein the parts may be easily assembled or disassembled.
Another very important object of thisiinvention resides in the provision of a structure of this nature when assembled which may be fOlded. i i
Affurther'very 'important object of this invention `resides in the provision of a structure'of this nature .which is simple, inexpensive to Vmanufacture, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and` otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
The above and numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will present themselves from time to time during a study of the following description taken in connection' with the accompanying drawings;
` whereinz' w 1 W V Figure 1 is a top plan view of the structure embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal Vertical section therethrough. w
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a detail sectionalview on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view on line 5-5 of Figure 1, and
Figure 7 is a detail perspective view of one corner of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the drier comprises a plain structure embodying a pair of pivotally connected sections A and B. Each of said sections A and B are substantially U-shaped, and include coextensive legs 5 connected at their outer ends through the medium of a cross member 6, the legs 5 ofthe respective sections forming` the side walls for the frame and the cross members 6 of said section forming the end wall of the frame. The free end of the wall 5 of the section A overlaps the adjacent free end of the walls or side members 5 of the section B as is clearly shown to advantage in Figure 1.
At their free ends, the members 5 of the 'f frame sections are rounded, and said sections are prvotally'connected as at 7. The pivoted end of the members 5 of theframe section B are provided with arcuate slots 8 to receive spectively to support a foraminous bottom 13-18 in the respective sections. Each of the bottoms 13 comprises a rectangular sheet of foraminous material, such as screening of any de'sired gage, each of the sheets being disposed in a channel shaped frame designated generally as at 14. The frame members 14 are adapted to rest upon the fianged portions 12-12 of the side end and end walls of the respective sections and are bolted or otherwise securely fastened thereto as at 15. The inner edges of the respective bottoms are disposed in abutting relation, and the adjacent frame member of one of the bottoms being bent upon itself as at 16 to extend beneath'theabutting` frame member 14; of the other section. Thus is provided a stop when the sections are disposed in vextended position.V
Supporting legs 17 are pivoted as at 18 to the side walls 5 and these legs 17 are adapted for swinging movement, so that said legs 17 may be swung upwardly to eXtend in parallelism with said side members or walls 5.
From the above detail'ed description it will be seen that I have devised a structure which is capable of having its parts easily and quickly assembled and disassembled. Furthermore, it will be seen thatthe structure is simple and'may be manufactured at a low cost, and when assembled may be folded.
This structure mayv be used in numerous different obvious ways such as preparing corn, fruit, vegetables, and may also be used as a sifter or the like.
It is t-hought that the construction, utility, and advantages of the invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in the :art
without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purpose of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable, in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparentthat changes in the detailed construction, and'in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit 01' scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificingt any of its ad'vantages.
H aving thus described the invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a drier of, the class described, a. pair of pivotally connected sections, each of said sections including a pair of spaced parallel side walls and an end wall connecting said side walls at one end, the free end walls of the respective sections'being disposed in overlapping relation, pivot bolts extending through the overlapping ends Vof said walls, the free ends of the side walls of one of said sections being provided with an arcuate slot, and a pin extending through the slot and the adjacent end of the' wall of the other of said sections. .i i
'-2. In a drier of the class described,V a pair of complemental. sections, each of said sections comprising a pair: of spaced parallel side walls, and an end wall, the freeends of theA side walls of the respective sections being disposed in overlapping relation, pivot bolts extending through the overlapping ends of said walls, lpin and slot connections between the overlapping ends of the walls of said section, and means vcarried by one of said sections and adapted for engagement with lthe other'of said sections for limiting the swinging movement of said sections when the latte are swung to an extended position. V
3. In a drier of the class described, a pair of pfvotally connected sections, each ofsaid sections including fa pair of spac'ed parallel side walls and an end wall connecting said side walls at Vone end, the free end'walls of the respective sections being disposed in overlapping relation,f pivot bolts extending through the overlappi'ng ends of said walls, the free end of the side walls of one of said sections being provided with an arcuate slot, and a pinv extending through the slot and the adjacent end of the Wall of the other of said sections, the side'and end walls at, their lower edges being' provided with inwalrdly directed vmeans for securing said edges Within said panels, said means also including means for securing the members Vof said last mentioned frame to said flanges. i
4. In a drier of the class described, a pair of pivotally connected sections, each of said sections including a pair of spaced parallel side walls and an end Wall connecting said side walls `at one end, the free end walls-of the respective Vsections being disposed in overlapping relation, ,pivot' bolts extending through the overlappingends of said walls, the free endof the side walls of one of said sections being provided withan arcuate slot., and a pin extending through the slot and the adj acent end of the wall of the other of said sections, the side and end walls at their lower edges being providedV with inwardly direct-l ed fianges, a frame having its frame members resting on lsaid fianges, thev frame'members of said last mentioned frame being pani eled in cross section, a sheet of wire mesh arranged in'said frame and having its edg'es received into thepanel of said vframe memlmembers being formedl with an outwardly extending projection vfor engagement with the other of said frame members when said sections are disposed in extended' position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. Mns. ROSE KASTEAD.
