0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS IRRIGATOR Application led October 3, 1928. Serial No. 310,133.
The present invention is directed to improvements in irrigators.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so con- 5 structed that the same can be conveniently suspended upon a wall or placed upon a support, the construction being such that the vessel and discharge hose connected thereto will be completely concealed from view.
Another object of the invention is to' provide a device of this kind constructed in such manner that the vessel can be removed from the holder in order that the same can be thoroughly sterilized.
Another object ot' the invention is to provide a device of this kind wherein the position of the discharge hose controls the How ot' liquid from the Vessel.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is extremely simple in construction, efficient in operation, durable, and one which can be manufactured at a very small cost.
With these and other objects in View, this invention resides in the novel features of con struction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimedV and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a sectional View on line 2--2 of Fi ure 1.
igure 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view through the discharge pipe.
Figure 6 is a sectional vview on line 6-6 of Figure 5. y
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a holder preferably formed from sheet metal, said holder comprising a back 2, sides 3, and a bottom 4. The forward edges of the sides 3 are inturned to provide fianges 5 to produce grooves 6, the purpose of whichk will be later explained. The back 2 is provided with a plurality of perforations 7 for the passage of securing devices in order that the holden can be conveniently secured to a wall or other support.
The upper edges of the sides are provided `With beveled or sloping portions 8 in order that the closure to be hereinafter described can more readily operate.
A vessel 9 is employed and is fapable of being removably mounted in the holder 1, said vessel being formed from glass, porcelain or any other suitable material. This vessel includes a back wall 10, side walls 11, a front wall 12, and a bottom 13.
The forward edges of -the sides 11 extend beyond the front wall 12 and constitute ribs 14 adapted to engage in the grooves 6 when the vessel is engaged in the holder'.
It will be observed upon reference to Figure 3 that the front wall l2 is of less height than the side walls 11, the purpose of which will later appear.
The front wall 12 of the vessel 9 is provided near its lower end with an opening 15 in which is threaded the inner end of the pipe 16, said pipe having an annular shoulder 17 thereon and against which the inner end of the sleeve 18 bears, said sleeve being rotatably mounted upon the pipe 16 and has carried thereby a nipple 19.
The sleeve is 'retained upon the pipe by a cap screw 2() which threads in the outer ends of the pipe 16, as clearly shown in Figure 5 of the drawings.
A rubber hose 21 is provided and has one end secured to the nipple while the other end carries a nozzle 21.
The pipe 16 is provided with a discharge opening 22adapted to register with the bore of the nipple 19 when said nipple is swung downwardly to permit the contents of the vessel to flow into the hose 21. It will be of course understood that lwhen the nipple is swung upwardly the sleeve 18 will\ close the opening 22 to prevent liquid from entering the hose.
To the bottoni 4 of the holder is secured a pair of clips 23 in which is supported the pintle 24. A closure 25 is provided and has its bottom 26 provided with sleeves 27 for pivotally engaging the pintle 24 in order that i Y ed positie om the will 1;'.
n the, :Closure is in it@ il e wall '129 le r. spar tdi "el in order that is provided tf:- accoinnedate the hose 2, as clearly shown in Figure 3. and at which time the hose is su tained in its4 inopirative position by tur 1in-'sf the saine upon the upper edge nl' the wall if. Then it is desired to use the device ilse closure is swung open and the here is removed from the Wall 152 in order that tir sleeve can rotate to swing the nipple 1S) downivaril lv to bring the bore thereof in registration with the opening 2:2. The How of liquid from the vessel can be stopped or regulated at any rtime by swinging the nipple to its closed or partially closed position.
'hen the device is not in use the closure will prevent the entrance of dust or other foreign matter into the vessel and will maintain the same in' a thoroughly sanitary condition Which is extremely desirable in articles'of this character.
The rear Wall 10 of the vessel is provided with perforations 30 for the passage of a securing device to suspended the same should it be desired to use the vessel when removed from the holder.
The vessel may be provided with any suitable graduations or other indicating means in order that the'solut-ions can be properly mixed.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operationvand'many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, Without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape and proportion. and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
If desired a catch 3l may be employed for positively holding the closure in its closed p0- sition.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. `A surgical irrgator comprising a vessel, a fluid dischargel pipe connected with the vessel, a closure sleeve rotatably mounted on the pipe. a hose connected with the sleeve and supported by the vessel to normally hold the closure sleeve against rotation to prevent the flow of Huid from the vessel into the hose and to permit flow of fluid Yalien the hose disengaged from the vessel As a new article of manufacture` an irrigator comprising a vessel having a discharge pipe connected therewith, a sleeve rotatable on the pipe and having a nipple7 adischarge vessel. vlaid if the w t and :i host ri lined .vitliii resille-tive froid w1-f1 En '.stusifin v iii-rect l fiillt rnv signature.
