This invention relates to hip boots having flexible uppers.

It is an object of the invention to provide or construct hip boots with efficient, simple means whereby the flexible uppers of the boot may be readily adjusted to and positively held at various lengths.

The above and other objects of the invention are achieved by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described below, it being understood that the invention is not limited to the specific embodiment thereof shown and described.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hip boot with the flexible upper folded and held in the shortest position.

Figure 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the boot upper held in a medium position.

Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the boot upper held in the fully extended position.

The invention is adapted to be used on an ordinary hip boot 10 having the usual flexi- Y ble uppers 11 and the body portion 12 which may be as flexible as the uppers or somewhat stiffer.

A strap 13 is fixed as at 14 in any suitable manner to the inside of the boot just'below the wearers knee, so that when the boots are worn the strap 13 may be looped around the users clothing usually in the forni of a belt indicated at 15, suitable means 16 being provided in the strap to adjust the length thereof.

At spaced intervals along the strap 13 are a plurality of snap fasteners 17. A short strap 18 having a snap fastener 19 thereon is provided on the boot body 12 opposite the strap 13. Fixed to the top of the flexible upper 11 at opposite sides thereof are snap fasteners 20 and 21 adapted to cooperate and engage with the snap fasteners 17 and 19 respectively.

In operation the user after putting on the boots loops the strap 13 about his belt 15 and adjusts it to the proper length by the means 16. When there is no necessity for the flexible uppers of the boots to be pulled up on the legs they are folded down over the boot vbody 12 and fastenedas illustrated in Figures 1 and 2..."4 -Itwill be seen that the fastener 20 engages with the lowermostY- fastener 1 7 on the strap 13 and that the fastener 21 engages with the fastener 19 onthe short strap 18. In this manner the flexible upper 11 is properly held in position regardless of the users movements.V Y

Upon going through knee-deep underbrush or water the uppers 11 may be raised to the position shown in Figures 3 and l. At this position the fastener 20' on the upper is snapped into the next higher fastener 17 upon the strap 13 as will be evident.

` Figures 5 and 6 illustrate how the upper is held in its completely raised position, the fastener 20 cooperating with the highest fastener 17 on the strap 13. Three positions of the uppers 11 is generally sufficient; however,

any number of positions can be had by pro viding fasteners 17 on the strap where and as desired.

It is contemplated to provide the boot with the fastening means of the invention after it has been made, however, they are preferably incorporated in the boot during the construe` tion thereof.

That is claimed is:

1. In a hip boot having a fiexible upper, a long` strap fixed to the inside of said boot just below the weavers knee, .said strap being adapted to be looped over Vthe belt of the wearer, a short strap fixed to the inside of said boot oppositely of said first strap, fastening means on said straps, and means on the exible upperA adapted to engage with said means on said straps to hold the upper in n folded position.

2. A hip boot having a flexible upper, a strap fixed at one end to the inside of said boot just below the wearers knee, the other end of said strap being adapted to be adjustably fixed to the clothing of the wearer, a shorty strap fixed to the inside ofv said boot oppositely of said first strap, fastening means on said straps, and means on the inside ofY said boot upper adapted to engagewith oertain of said fastening means to hold the upper in various positions.

strap fixed at one end to the inside of said Y boot just below the wearers, l;nee,.\ the other end of said strap being adapted to be adjustably fixed to the clothing of the wearer, a plurality of fastening. means on said strap, and means on the inside of said boot upper adapted to engage with any one of' said fastening., means to hold the upper injvariousposltions. y

4. In a hip boot having aflexible'upper, a long strap fixed tothe inside of said boot just below the wearers knee, saidstrapv being adapted to be looped over the belt of the wearer, a short strap fixed to the-inside of said boot oppositely of said first strap, a plurality ofl fastening means on the long strap, a single: fastening means on the short strap, opposite the lowermost fastening means on the long strap', and means on' lthe inside upper Y edge of. the flexible upper adapted to engagewith the lowermos't fastening means on said short strap to;holdl the flexible upper in its lowermost folded position.

5. ln a hip boot having a` flexible upper, a long strap fixed tothe inside of said boot just below the wearers knee, said strap being adapted to be looped over the belt of the wearer, a short strap fixed to the inside of said boot oppositely of said first strap, a plu,- rality of fastening means onkthe long strap, a single fastening means on the short' strap,

opposite the lowerinost fastening means on the long strap, and means on the inside. upper edge of the flexible upper adapted to engage with the lowermost fastening means on said short strap to holdI the flexible upper ff, in its lowermost folded position; said means on said upper also being adapted to engage with any other of said fastening` means on said long strap to holdl the upper in any p'osition desired. 6. In a hip boot having a flexible upper, a long strap fixed to the inside of said boot just below the wearers'knee, said strap being adapted to be looped over thev belt of the wearer, a plurality Yof fastening means on said strap, and meansV on .the inside of saidboot-upper adaptedto engage with any one of saidfastening. means whereby the upper can be held in various positions.
