This invention relates to sanitary napkins and particularly to devices of this class including as a unit part thereof, supporting means therefor; and the object of the inven-` tion is to provide an article of manufacture of the class specied to one end portion of which is fiXedly or movably attached a waist encircling band, and means at the other end portion thereof for detachably and adjustably supporting said end portion in connection with said band in supporting the device upon the body of the wearer; a still Ifurther object being to provide at the second named end portion of the device, coupling means for detachably and adjustably supporting the kin upon the body of the wearer so same, which is made from said end portion of the device and includes a buttonor other coupling device; a further vobject being to provide a napkin of the class speciiied, to one end portion of which is attached a coupling tab which is attached to the material of the napkin at said end as well as to the padding material employed; a still further object being to provide means for supporting a napthat said supporting means will lie atly or in close proximity to the body of the wearer to avoid any bulging or projecting appearance; and with these and other objects in view, the in- 0 vention consists in a Vdevice of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction, eiiicient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in thefollowing specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which 1 is a perspective view of one complete device made according to my invention, illustrating parts in extended position.

In the several figures, the reference numeral 5 designates a napkin proper of conventional or any desired form and construction which is made up of a central pad body 6 enclosed in an outer casing or jacket 7, the latter being composed of inexpensive fibrous material preferably of an absorbent nature such for example as cheese-cloth, the pad 6 being composed of paper, cotton or other highly absorbent material. At one end 5a of the napkin, preferably the rear end, is formed a short coupling tab or member 8 in connection with which a waist encircling strap, band or string 9 is coupled, the tab 8 being preferably made of strong material of a closely woven nature or otherwise secured to said end 5a of the napkin. y

Secured to the other end 5b of the napkin is a coupling tab 10 which as seen in Figs. l and 2 of the drawing is made from a single sheet of material preferably of an inexpensive but strong and durable texture. This tab is stitched or otherwise secured to the end portion 5b of the napkin as seen at 1l, and the free end of said tab is preferably folded upon itself and stitched as seen at 12 to form a nished end 13,

Arranged centrally and longitudinally of theI tab 10 is a series of slits 14 which terminate at their ends in circular apertures forming of said slits, buttonholes adapted to receive a button 15 attached to the tab l() by cutting a tongue portion 16 therefrom, thus leaving an elongated aperture 17 in the tab, the free end of the tongue portion 16 being threaded through the apertures in the button 15, note Fig. 2. and extends down to the attached end of the tab and is secured in position by the line of stitchings as at 11.' In other words, the button 15 is secured to the tab 10 and said tab is attached to the end 56 of the napkin by one line of stitching.

In the use of the device as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the strap member 9 with one end of the napkin attached thereto is passed around the waist of the wearer, after which the tab 10 of the napkin is placed beneath the band 9 and is then folded down- Y wardl over said band, and the button 1.5 is

passe through one of the button-holes 14 as partially indlcatedy in Fig. 2 of the drawing.

The series of buttony holes are .employed to' adjust `the length of the napkin structure as a whole, it being understood that the arrangement of the band 9 upon the body of the wearer, also cares for this, adjustment. It will be apparent that with my improved construction, the forward end ofthe napkin may be detaclfedA from the band 9 om time to time, without releasing said and from the body of the wearer,and this applies to the other form-s of construction shown aside from the specific type of securing means em loyed.

A sanitary napkin comprising an absorbent pad, a fabric casing for lsaid pad and extending beyond the ends thereof, a Waist encircling band coupled with one end oi the casing, the ends of said band. being adapted to be attached in supporting the same upon the body of the wearer and a tab permanently attached to the other end of the casing, said tab being detachably coupled with said band when mounted in position, said tab having llongitudinally spaced apertures and a coupling member iiexibly'attached to the taband adapted to be passed through one of said apertures in adjustably supporting said end of the casin ofthe napkin-in connection with saidban andthe attachment of said coupling member to the tab being formed bya relatively thin strip of material cut from the material of said tab.

In a'sanitary napkin of the class described, an absorbent pad, a fabric casing in which said pad is mounted and a coupling tab permanently attached to one end of said casing and of a Width substantially equal to that of said casing, said tab havin lon 'tudinally spaced apertures and a mem er ex'ibly attached to the tab and adapted to be passedthrough one of the apertures therein in adjustably supporting said end of the casing, and the attachment of said member 4to the tab being formed by a comparatively narrowv strip fashioned from the material'of said tab.

6. In sanitary napkins of the class described comprising an elongated fabric casing containing an absorbent pad and a body encircling band coupled with one end of the casing, a coupling tab permanently attached to the other end of the casin adapted to be looped around said band, the gres end portion of saidtab having an aperture, a coupling member flexibly attached to the inner end of the tab and adapted to be passed through said aperture when the end of said tab is looped around said band to secure the tab to the band, and said member comprising a button and the attachment thereof to the tab comprising a flexible strip looped through said button.
